Full Job Description
This Clinical Fellow post offers the opportunity to develop clinical and research skills in Dermatology and would be ideal for anyone wishing to pursue higher specialist training in this area. Our previous post holders have gained specialist experience and development of their CVs directly leading to successful application for higher specialist training or CESR training posts.
The post is full time will be mainly based in the Department of Dermatology at Poole where most of our out-patient and research activity is based. The post will also require attendance at Royal Bournemouth Hospital for ward rounds and review of inpatients.The role involves providing clinical care for dermatology patients and a clinical research component for 2 days per week.
We are based in an ideal place to live if you enjoy the outdoors with some of the UK's best beaches just a few miles away, and the beautiful Purbecks and Jurassic coast only a short bike ride or drive away. Poole Harbour is a superb place to learn and enjoy water sports such as sailing, windsurfing and paddle boarding. The hospital Mess organises weekly social and watersports events.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate evidence of commitment to Dermatology as a career and prior experience working in Dermatology and/or research is desirable.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will carry out Dermatology outpatient clinics for general dermatology, systemic treatments and skin cancer under senior supervision. They will have responsibility for the assessment of acute Dermatology referrals on the wards and in the out-patient department. The research component of the post will comprise working with the Dermatology research team to support the running of clinical trials and other research studies in the department. There is no on call commitment. The post holder will help to provide cover for the Dermatology SpR during times of leave and will work as a part of a team of resident doctors.
Time will be allocated for Continual Professional Development in Dermatology with attendance and participation in regional and national meetings encouraged. The post holder will have an induction period at the start of the job to receive training in clinical dermatology and research. The department is led by 7 consultants and consist of a team of nurse specialists, speciality and specialist grade doctors and three SpRs. There is a strong clinical training environment and you will receive support with your learning in Dermatology, with structured educational supervision, in person clinical supervision, and mentorship.
