Full Job Description

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust is seeking to appoint aClinical Fellow in COPD/ Integrated Care. This position aims to provide specialist training in COPD for a respiratory trainee as Out Of Programme Experience or for a trainee having completed Core Medical training, hoping to work in this field in their future career. It also has a significant research component. The post is offered as a one year fixed term to start in April 2027 dependent on training commitments.

Applicants will hold Specialist Registrar status within GSTT and should hold MRCP and have reached at least ST3 (or post-CCT in respiratory medicine).

The successful candidate will be offered training in the out-patient management of COPD, the in-patient management of COPD, domiciliary care for COPD patients, oxygen assessment, Primary Care virtual clinics, and MDT working. The candidate will be encouraged to take part in clinical COPD research or quality improvement projects., The post will include two specialist COPD clinics per week (fully supported), weekly MDT and one ward In-Reach session. The post holder will also provide General Medical Registrar night ward cover shifts, on a 1 in 18 basis.

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust is one of the UK's leading health institutions. The Integrated Respiratory Team works across King's Health Partners and the boroughs of Southwark and Lambeth. The IRT provides high value care to patients to patients with COPD and those requiring Oxygen treatment (HOSAR service), during admission to hospital, in specialist outpatients, through virtual clinics in Primary Care, and in their homes.

The Directorate of Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care and Sleep based at Guy's and St Thomas' (forming part of the GSTT Heart Lung and Critical Care Clinical Group) is committed to delivering excellent patient care whilst meeting the Government targets for A&E waiting times, cancer and 18 weeks.

The Directorate team consists of Professor Nicholas Barrett, Clinical Director, Mr Daniel Tilahun, General Manager, and Heather Winterbridge, Head of Nursing. They are supported by a team of Matrons and Service Managers who lead on the day to day delivery of the various services.

The directorate provides a comprehensive service for inpatient and outpatient settings from a body of 20 consultants (as below). Respiratory consultants also contribute to the care of general medical and high-dependency patients.

Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals joined Guy's and St Thomas' in February 2021 and is the largest specialist heart and lung centre in the UK and among the largest in Europe.
