The successful applicant is expected to work as a member of the clinical team under the guidance and supervision of senior Cardiologist working in partnership with other members of the clinical and multi-disciplinary team, and under consultant supervision and guidance., They will be expected to undertake a range of clinical duties including the daily clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment of inpatients, providing immediate care to deteriorating patients including initial resuscitation where appropriate, appropriate referrals to other relevant specialist teams where indicated, and supporting safe discharge and follow up. They will be expected to follow local and national guidance and to contribute to these.

We serve a population of 550,000 across East Lancashire covering both Burnley and Blackburn. Services from both towns were centralised on the Royal Blackburn site in November 2007, with only outpatient clinics continuing at Burnley General Hospital. Diagnostic angiography and pacing (including ICD and Biventricular Devices) is performed in our catheter laboratory, with cardiac surgery being performed at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre (LCC) in Blackpool. The second catheter lab and the new day case unit became operational in February 2010, with on-site PCI commencing on 24th February 2010.
