Full Job Description

An opportunity has arisen to join the Medical Equipment Library team at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB). The Medical Equipment Library is a centralised service responsible for issuing, tracking, maintaining, and managing medical devices across Trust sites, ensuring equipment is safe, available, and fit for use. In this role, you will support wards and departments by ensuring timely access to essential medical equipment required to deliver safe and effective care to patients within our acute hospital environments. The role is operational, hands-on, and contributes directly to patient safety and service delivery. Working Pattern and Requirements

  • Part-time:22.5 hours per week
  • Core hours:08:00 - 16:00(subject to service needs)
  • Includesweekend working
  • Flexibility required to support service demand, including holiday and sickness cover
  • Required to work acrossDerby and Burton hospital sites
  • This role isnot a driving position
  • The post holder will support the day-to-day operational delivery of the Equipment Library service, ensuring equipment is available, safe, and appropriately managed. Key duties include:
  • Collecting, delivering, and distributing medical equipment across wards and departments
  • Receiving, checking, cleaning, and preparing equipment for reissue in line with infection prevention and control guidance
  • Ensuring all equipment is functional, safe, and ready for clinical use prior to issue by following work instructions
  • Maintaining equipment in a charged and ready-to-use state where applicable
  • Recording all equipment loans and returns accurately using Trust systems
  • Maintaining the medical equipment asset database in line with Trust policies
  • Supporting stock control processes, including monitoring equipment levels and consumables
  • Identifying faulty equipment and arranging transfer to Clinical Engineering for repair
  • Responding promptly to equipment requests
  • Acting as a point of contact for clinical staff requiring equipment
  • Liaising with nursing, clinical, and support staff to ensure service needs are met
  • Following all relevant Trust policies, including infection control and health and safety requirements
  • Maintaining accurate records to support audit and compliance processes
