An exciting opportunity has become available for a highly motivated, autonomous and enthusiastic Clinical Endoscopist to join us in the Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Service at Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust. This is a full time, senior nursing post, the requirement of which will be to perform high quality Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy and Flexible sigmoidoscopy within a high-volume endoscopy service. The post holder will play a key role in the delivery of a safe, efficient and patient-centred service within Endoscopy and Gastroenterology within our well-established Gastroenterology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Team, which includes a Nurse Consultant, Clinical Endoscopist, IBD, Lower GI STT and Upper GI cancer CNS's Main duties of the job The provision of a high standard of individualised holistic patient care to all patients attending the endoscopy unit and Gastroenterology Service. Performing endoscopy procedures which will include diagnostic upper and/or lower GI endoscopy in line with the BSG, ACPGBI and AUGIS guidance on the scope of professional practice for clinicalendoscopists and to work as part of a large multidisciplinary team. Attendance at MDT meetings in colorectal, hepatobiliary and upper GI. The candidate will be expected to autonomously manage a caseload of patients using advanced assessment skills within the Gastroenterology Service, including face to face and virtual Nurse-Led clinics within the sub-specialities of upper gastro-intestinal, hepatobiliary and lower GI disease to support in the delivery of new and patient follow up in both routine and Faster Diagnosis Standard pathways. To provide training of other Clinical Endoscopists, medical and/or surgical trainees.

  • oPrevious experience as a trainee or trained clinical Endoscopist in an acute Trust setting.
  • oRelevant experience with leadership/management experience.
  • oExperience working in endoscopy and gastroenterology
  • Skills Essential
  • JAG accreditation to undertake upper and/or lower GI endoscopy.
  • oAdvanced assessment skills in clinical practice including history-taking, physical assessment and managing clinical complexity.
  • oBe a Non-Mical Prescriber having undertaken the V300
  • oExpert knowledge and ability to undertake upper and lower endoscopic procedures
  • oKnow when to call for assistance during an endoscopy by assessing the pt and the procedure.
  • oAbility to record and report back accurately and fully on patient assessments undertaken and risks identified.
  • oCan show a non-judgemental approach to patient care.
  • oAbility to prioritise clinical work effectively.
  • oAbility to communicate effectively at all levels across the Department and Directorate
  • oThe ability to communicate with patients in an empathetic manner regarding their treatment and procedures.
  • oCan demonstrate an enthusiastic, approachable and friendly manner
  • oAbility to communicate effectively, both written and oral.
  • oAbility to self-reflect, carry out responsibilities of own job and identify what s/he needs to learn to able to do current job better
  • oAbility to identify and assess the potential risks involved in work activities and processes for self and others.

  • oBroad understanding of healthcare provision with an awareness and appreciation of current issues of working within the Endoscopy Service
  • oKnowledge of current and emerging NHS strategy and policy
  • oAbility to offer constructive suggestions for service improvement, oCan demonstrate knowledge of current and emerging health care issues. Ability to store data/ information safely and correctly, oRegistered Nurse who has completed Clinical Endoscopist training and is now independent in upper and /or lower GI endoscopy
  • oEducated to master's level as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner
  • oNon-Medical Prescriber V300, oAbility to work flexible hours to meet service requirements.
  • oAbility to identify and act when own or other's undermines equality and diversity.
  • To be fully compliant with the flexibility of the service and understands to need to work in another local unit
