Full Job Description
The Endoscopy Lead provides clinical leadership to the endoscopy service to oversee governance and ensure clinical effectiveness and productivity. The clinical lead will act as a senior member of the clinical team, providing expert advice and opinion related to endoscopy for the operational teams and throughout the broader organisation. The post currently attracts the equivalent of 1PA (4h) of time per week, with an adjunctive 0.5PA JAG Compliance Lead Role should the applicant wish to consider this additional responsibility., The Clinical Service Lead is accountable to the Clinical Director (CD), working with the Directorate Manager (DM) and Matron:
- Providing clinical leadership within the clinical service
- To work in a collaborative manner within the management structure of the Directorate
- Monitoring the quality and safety of activities and proposing and implementing actions to address any concerns in conjunction with the CD, Matron and DM.
- Planning the delivery of efficient, cost effective clinical services within resources available
- Promoting and leading innovation and improvements in clinical productivity and service delivery
- Ensuring effective communication between the specialty and the Directorate and Divisional Teams
- Facilitating research and development, teaching and training
- Develop/maintain links with key external organisations, The role will be performed in coordination with other members of the leadership team, including the clinical director, the matron, and directorate manager. The endoscopy lead also needs to ensure that there is an appropriate training agenda in the department by working with the training lead. The endoscopy lead should ensure that patient safety is at the heart of the processes within the service. Core responsibilities:
- Clinical governance
- Unit management and efficiency
- Training environment (in co-ordination with the Endoscopy training lead)
- Key performance indicators
A practicing clinical professional within the endoscopy department - Have knowledge of the NHS, its infrastructure and current plans for reform Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate management/ further study qualification, Experience of working within the NHS within an acute hospital environment, preferably a teaching hospital
- Experience in managing clinical services and / or teams
- Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance Desirable criteria
- Experience of change management
- Experience of working within a devolved management structure, See management as an open, involving and participative process
- Have good insight and being able to handle constructive criticism
- Ability to work in partnership with managers and other clinicians
- Demonstrate tenacity in dealing with issues
- Demonstrate the ability to hold clinical colleagues to account, Have the capacity to analyse problems in a logical and structured way, generating optional and innovative solutions and adapting approaches to problem-solving to achieve sustainable outcomes
- Be able to anticipate problems, to understand the driving forces behind problems, or potential problems and being able to identify and use levers to achieve change
- Be skilled in influencing and negotiating
- The ability to understand and interpret clinical decisions for others and make informed judgements concerning clinical priorities
- Be articulate and skilled in presenting ideas to others
- Have the proven ability to operate and think laterally at operational and strategic levels, with good analytical skills
- Be articulate with practised and developed communication and presentation skills
- Be innovative and responsive to change
- Demonstrate an understanding of quality assurance activity, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
