Full Job Description

The post holder will assist the Clinical Coding Services Lead/Assistant Services Lead in the management of the Clinical Coding Department, ensuring that accuracy, timeliness and completeness of the Trusts Clinical Coded data is maintained within set guidelines to the highest standard. They will assist the Clinical Coding Services Lead/Assistant Services Lead in the day-to-day operation and distribution of work within the clinical coding service, assisting in the development of the service in accordance with local requirements whilst adhering strictly to national directives. The post holder should assist the Clinical Coding Services Lead/Assistant Services Lead in the promotion of clinical terming and clinical coding throughout the local health community and work with clinicians to promote coding awareness. The post holder must produce high quality clinical information in a timely and accurate manner for both internal and external use. To be responsible for ensuring patient records, across both hospital sites, are accurately coded to National Standards within the required timescale. The Clinical Coder role is vital to the funding of the Trust. Coded clinical data is essential for the effective management of the Trust. It is used to support Service Level Agreements; clinical governance reporting and benchmarking and it has a direct impact on the Trust's income (via "NHS Payment Scheme"). The responsibility of the Clinical Coding Team Leader will be to ensure that all day-to-day staffing issues are adhered to, following policy and procedures e.g. sickness, holidays, timesheets, timekeeping, Staff Appraisals, 1:1's. This person will also work closely with other managers/trainers/auditors within the coding department and cover other Senior members of the Clinical Coding Team in their absence. You must have an awareness of HRG's, HSMR and strive to improve quality and accuracy of coding.,

  • To be a specialist clinical coder, within clinical areas across both hospital sites to persuade and motivate clinical teams to engage with the principals of coding ensuring their comprehension and commitment.
  • Understand our customers, their business and their objectives through regular formal & informal communications
  • Understand relevant developments within the NHS environment and beyond with relation to clinical coding e.g. use of RPA.
  • Interpret customer requirements and provide advice on potential solutions in relation to clinical coding.
  • Plan & manage activities to deliver agreed work programmes relating to clinical coding on time and in full.
  • Assist the Clinical Coding Services Lead/Assistant Services Lead to ensure continuous improvement in the quality of clinical data used for clinical governance, commissioning and health needs analysis.
  • Support the Clinical Coding Services Lead/Assistant Services Lead with addressing clinical coding queries/disputes using the NHS England Help Desk and the Internet and by liaising with clinical staff for clarification of information.
  • Assist the Clinical Coding Services Lead/Assistant Services Lead in delivering the agreed clinical coding service.
  • Assist the Clinical Coding Services Lead/Assistant Services Lead in identifying how the clinical coding process can be made more effective, more efficient and more relevant through the application of new technologies or skills e.g. use of RPA
