Full Job Description
Workflow and coding of all letters and emails that come into the practice on a daily basis. This includes being able to accurately identify which letters need to go to a clinician for action, which can be actioned yourself and which need purely coding. Attention to detail is essential with good productivity rates important. Additional administrative duties such as summarising will be required., The Clinical Coder will be responsible for the clinical coding of relevant information into patients electronic healthcare records on the clinical system, adhering to the standard SNOMED CT codes and relevant organisational policies. In addition, the post-holder will support the multi-disciplinary team, providing administrative support as required, in line with the needs of the organisation. The post-holder will support staff with the distribution of information, messages and enquiries for the clinical team, liaising with multidisciplinary team members and external agencies such as secondary care and community service providers. The following are the core responsibilities of the Clinical Coder in delivering health services. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. Accurately clinically code data into the patient record on the clinical system b. Identifying relevant clinical information documented in patient correspondence, coding appropriately and completing any detailed action c. Inputting and extracting data as required to support practice reports, audits and to capitalise upon both patient safety and QOF income d. Scanning patient related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patients healthcare records e. Highlight all timely actions, changes to patient care and management to the relevant clinician f. File and store records as required g. Photocopy documentation as required h. Action all incoming correspondence, emails and mail in a timely manner i. Input data into patients healthcare records as necessary
- Assist with total triage administration k. Conduct system searches as requested l. Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times m. Support all clinical staff with general administrative tasks as requested n. Undertake a broad spectrum of administrative duties commensurate with the role o. Be an integral part of the general practice team p. Be aware of duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on safeguarding adults and safeguarding children q. Support in the delivery of enhanced services and other service requirements r. Undertake all mandatory training and induction programmes s. Contribute to and embrace the spectrum of clinical governance t. Attend a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months. Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed
- Experience in clinical coding within primary care (UK)
- Experience of Emis and Docman Desirable
- Familiar with AI software e.g Better letter Skills Essential
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure
- Reliable and flexible regarding hours Qualifications Essential
- GCSE A-C or 4-9 maths and English Desirable
- National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ) Person Specification Experience Essential
- Experience in clinical coding within primary care (UK)
- Experience of Emis and Docman Desirable

We have an experienced team of non-clinical staff , salaried GPs and practice nurses with the practice actively involved in a thriving Primary Care Network with a variety of allied health professionals supporting the practice including Pharmacists, Social Prescribers, Physiotherapist and Mental Health support workers.
Stourside Medical Practice is based in the centre of Halesowen and supports the health needs of 6000 patients . We require an experienced clinical coder who has experience of working in a Primary Care setting. We are an Emis practice who use Docman in conjunction with Better Letter (AI support)., Experience Essential
