Climate Community Outreach Worker
Job Title: Climate Community Outreach Worker
Contract: Part-time role, fixed term for 24 months (with possible extension dependent on funding). This role is offered on either a self-employed or employed basis.

Salary:
· Self-employed £12 – £15 per hour (depending on experience/qualifications)
· Employed £26,437 - £30,000 pro-rata (depending on experience/qualifications).
Hours: Part-time opportunity of up to 30 hours per month (to be agreed). Hours worked will be flexible based on the requirements of the role. Some out of hours working (evenings and weekends) will be required to fit in with community set events and activities.
Location: Home based, with regular and frequent travel in and around Bridgwater, Somerset Responsible to: Project Manager
Probationary period: two months.

The Eco Centre is a charity that empowers people to live more sustainably and helps disadvantaged communities. We inform, inspire and enable people and communities to take action on climate change and protecting the environment.
Our focus on the practical everyday actions we can all take to reduce carbon emissions and protect our environment. We do this through community outreach, building partnerships to boost community-based projects and the new E-Save app. Launching soon this ground-breaking app helps people reduce carbon and waste, all while cutting household costs.

About the role
The postholder will act as a local agent for promoting sustainability in Bridgwater area communities and promoting take up and use of the E-Save App. The role involves building relationships with local organisations and communities, arranging workshops and demos, with a particular focus on disadvantaged communities.
As an outreach post working across a variety of areas in and around and requiring transportation of display equipment and materials, access to a vehicle is essential.

Key Responsibilities
¨ Lead on community engagement in targeted communities, working with them (and local groups and volunteers) providing a range of opportunities for local people to become actively engaged in the programme;
¨ Promote uptake and use of the E-Save app via outreach, promotional activities and demonstrations;
¨ Meet key targets of recruitment and coordination of volunteers to assist with the project;
¨ Liaise with workshop leaders to arrange workshops and demonstrations;
¨ Lead demonstrations of the app, and provide guidance on other simple tips and ideas for sustainable living;
¨ Develop and maintain good working relationships with local groups and communities, and other stakeholders;
¨ Promote membership of the Eco Centre;
¨ Liaise with sustainability and environmental projects operating in the area, and assist with the development of a network for these;
¨ Encourage residents to use and support local sustainability and environmental services/facilities;
¨ Assist with promotional material and social media;
¨ Maintain accurate records, in compliance with GDPR policies;
¨ Follow relevant legal, policies and good practice requirements;
¨ Any other reasonable duties as required by the Eco Centre, by funders or the line manager.
This role requires a passion for practical community action on climate change, the environment and poverty.
We are seeking an organised and motivated self-starter who can enthuse, enable and empower.
We are looking for someone with demonstrable knowledge and work experience, as listed in the person specification. We will however consider applicants looking to enter this career field who have transferable skills, meet the personal attribute specifications, and have an enthusiasm for developing in the role.

Work Experience Knowledge and Skills
Essential
• Level 2 qualification in English and Maths
• Experience of community, voluntary or group work- including teaching
• -
• Computer literate, including operation of word processing applications, email, online meeting applications.
• Awareness of the some of the simple actions people can take to reduce waste, CO2, or otherwise live more sustainably.
• Ability to maintain accurate records.
Desirable
• Level 3 qualification in relevant subject.
• Experience of community outreach and engagement work.
• Knowledge of the area
• Experience of producing promotional material.
• Experience of public speaking in a community engagement context.
• Working knowledge of carbon saving and/or literacy initiatives. Experience of sustainability initiatives.
• Experience of networking and building good working relationships, particularly in the community/voluntary sector.
• Experience of maintaining accurate records and monitoring projects.
