Full Job Description

This post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of criminal records via the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed. This will include details of cautions, reprimands, or final warnings, as well as convictions. The County Council has a commitment to safeguarding service users in our care. The Beacon Primary Pupil Referral Unit is a ten place setting situated in Redditch, Worcestershire. It is a maintained school and serves both the Redditch and Bromsgrove area. It supports pupils who are at risk of, or are permanently excluded. The Beacon also has an Outreach Team who work with mainstream schools. An amazing opportunity has arisen to appoint a new Headteacher. The Governors' wish to welcome applicants who have extensive experience of working with vulnerable pupils. If you have a passion to lead an Alternative Provision as a Headteacher by inspiring and motivating vulnerable pupils to thrive, to re-engage with learning and to reach their full potential then this could be the job for you. We are looking for a leader who, by putting the pupils first, is:

  • Able to provide a clear and strategic vision to move the school forward
  • Able to celebrate success and resilient to deal with challenge
  • An excellent communicator as well as an exceptionally good listener
  • Confident to work with stakeholders and external agencies
  • Experienced with budgeting
  • Keen to create a safe and inviting environment for pupils
  • Able to work with and value a strong dedicated Team of staff
  • Able to demonstrate sound experience of working with young vulnerable pupils with SEND
  • Able to demonstrate the impact SEMH has on learning
  • Keen to foster the advantages therapeutic programs integrated into the school curriculum bring
  • Determined to reintegrate pupils into mainstream and specialist settings ensuring smooth transitions
  • Able to promote an ethos of well-being for all
  • Able to offer kindness and a smile at the end of every day
  • Disclosure Barring Service (DBS)
