Full Job Description

Teaching and Learning

Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality lessons in line with the National Curriculum and school policies.

Adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of pupils, including those with SEND and EAL.

Assess, record and report on pupil progress, using assessment to inform future planning.

Provide timely, constructive feedback to pupils to support progress and attainment.

Take responsibility for the progress, attainment and outcomes of pupils taught, using assessment and evidence to inform teaching, intervention and next steps.

Classroom Environment and Behaviour

Establish and maintain a safe, purposeful and well-organised learning environment.

Promote positive behaviour and high expectations in line with the school behaviour and relationships policy.

Support pupils to develop independence, resilience and positive attitudes to learning.

Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils, modelling the positive attitudes, values and behaviour expected of all members of the school community.

Take responsibility for managing behaviour effectively in line with the school's behaviour policy, ensuring consistency, fairness and a positive learning climate.

Inclusion and Pupil Support:

Foster an inclusive classroom culture that promotes equality, respect and diversity.

Work closely with the SENCo, teaching assistants and external professionals to support pupils with additional needs.

Ensure teaching approaches promote independence and reduce reliance on adult support over time.

Safeguarding and Welfare:

Safeguard and promote the welfare of children in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).

Maintain a position of trust at all times and act in the best interests of pupils.

Follow health and safety requirements to ensure a safe learning environment.

Fulfil statutory safeguarding responsibilities as set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education, including identifying, responding to and reporting safeguarding concerns in line with school procedures.

Working with Teaching Assistants and Support Staff:

Direct and deploy teaching assistants effectively to support learning.

Provide clear guidance on lesson objectives, activities and expectations.

Be accountable for the effective deployment of teaching assistants and support staff within the classroom to maximise pupil progress and independence.

Professional Development and Collaboration:

Engage in ongoing professional development and reflective practice.

Work collaboratively with colleagues to contribute to school improvement.

Participate fully in staff meetings, training and appraisal processes.

Engage in professional development and appraisal processes to improve practice and meet career-stage expectations, contributing to continuous improvement at classroom and school level.

Parental Engagement:

Build positive relationships with parents and carers.

Communicate effectively regarding pupil progress, attainment and development.

Health and Safety:

Promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils, and help to safeguard pupils' wellbeing by following the requirements of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and our school's child protection policy, Working at Parklands offers a genuinely positive and professional environment.
