Full Job Description

Introduction

Our pre-construction team turns ideas into buildable, well-planned projects before work starts on site. As a Pre-Construction Apprentice (studying Civil Engineering Technician) you'll give technical support to our engineers and construction professionals – preparing drawings, data and documentation that shape a project.

About the Employer

JSM Group brings together three connected businesses – Power, Digital Infrastructure and Advisory – to design, build and connect the infrastructure the country relies on, from concept to connection. As part of our continued growth, we’re on the lookout for a Pre-Construction Apprentice.

An apprenticeship with us means real responsibility from day one, a nationally recognised qualification, and the support of experienced colleagues who want you to succeed.

Our values shape how we work: we are Personal (human, caring and accountable), Brilliant (better together), Driven (determined and always improving) and known for Sound Judgment (making intelligent, well-reasoned decisions).

What You'll Do

•  Help prepare, produce and modify engineering drawings, models, documents and specifications to the relevant codes and standards.

•  Collect and interpret technical data, carry out basic calculations and analyse the results to support designs.

•  Use CAD and BIM software to create and present designs and visualisations.

•  Support health, safety and welfare compliance (including CDM), helping to identify hazards and manage risk in your work.

•  Apply relevant legislation, standards and codes of practice (such as CDM, DMRB and CSM) and communicate them correctly.

•  Support sustainability and net-zero goals on the projects you work on.

•  Use quality and document-control systems to help plan, monitor and deliver work to specification, budget and programme.

•  Help pull together pre-construction and tender information, take-offs and survey data with the team.

•  Get out on site – join site visits and surveys with the team to see how your drawings and plans are built, gather site data and measurements, and understand construction methods, constraints and health and safety in practice.

•  Communicate and liaise with the project team, clients and stakeholders, including clear written notes.

•  Complete your apprenticeship coursework and take responsibility for your own development.
