Full Job Description

We're now looking for a Cinematic Artist to join our team. You will play a key role in creating state of the art game cinematics for our projects. Working closely with the Art Director and project leads, you will work on scenes from early block outs to final delivery, crafting camera work, cinematic lighting, and final edits for our scenes. As well as being capable of creating expertly composed shots that tell a story visually and compliment the project's art style, the successful candidate should have a passion for cinematography, a strong artistic eye, and be a good collaborator, able to take on board feedback and support the wider project goals. Here's just a snippet of what you'll be up to

  • Create cinematic camera shots with excellent composition that support narrative beats
  • Animate camera motion in Unreal Sequencer that feels reminiscent of 'real world' cinematography
  • Position and edit cinematic lighting to achieve a polished look to shots
  • Create coherent, well-paced edits in which shots flow together seamlessly, never jarring or taking the viewer out of the experience
  • Create block-outs early in the development process that help to inform mo-cap shoots and are representative of intended direction
  • Have a solid understanding of cinematic terminology, such as types of shot and lens
  • Work closely with project directors and stakeholders so that your work represents the intended project artistic direction
  • Be able to accept and implement feedback cordially

Must have demonstratable prior experience working in Unreal Engine, preferably showcasing work on cinematics.
  • Demonstratable 'artistic flair' and eye for a shot in examples of previous work.
  • Understanding of practical photography and camera terminology.
  • Strong understanding of cinematography concepts, such as composition, motion, lighting and colour.
  • Understanding of 'non-linear editing' concepts.
  • Able to successfully take ownership of specific scene(s) making sure they achieve the desired quality in the available time.
  • A keen eye for visual coherence and understanding of storytelling through image.
  • Experience of colour grading is an advantage.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to take and give constructive feedback; adaptable to critiques and feedback

We're an award-winning games studio known for producing dark storytelling titles such as the BAFTA-winning Until Dawn, the cinematic masterclass of The Dark Pictures Anthology, the multi-award-winning The Quarry, the world of Little Nightmares and many more!

The Perks of being a Supermassive Superstar are:
  • 25 Days Annual Leave (3 of which are used when we close the studio for our end of year break)
  • Private Medical Insurance (BUPA)
  • Life Assurance (6 x annual salary)
  • Quarterly Profit related Bonus
  • Pension Scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Income Protection
  • Enhanced Family Leave (maternity and paternity pay)
  • Generous staff referral scheme
