Full Job Description

Birmingham Children's Trust is seeking an experienced Childrens Senior Practitioner to join their Children in Care service, based in Aston, Birmingham (B6 4DU). This is a temporary role paying £24.51-£33.29 per hour, starting 22 June 2026. In this lead practitioner role, you will drive improvements in the quality of social work practice across the full casework cycle, holding a complex caseload whilst providing professional guidance and mentoring to less experienced colleagues. You will be responsible for delivering a needs-led social work service to children, young people, and their families, ensuring full compliance with legislative requirements and established best practice. Key responsibilities include managing allocated complex cases, sharing expert knowledge of relevant legislation, national standards and departmental policy, providing quality assurance and coaching, and actively promoting effective partnership working with service users and external agencies. You will support the Team Manager and represent the department at meetings as required.

Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification, be registered with Social Work England, and have demonstrable post-qualifying experience in a children's social care setting, ideally within a Children in Care or Looked After Children team. Birmingham Children's Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
