Full Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Children's Speech and Language Therapist to join our expanding Specialist Schools service in Gateshead. You will deliver assessment and therapy to school age children presenting with a range of speech, language and communication needs associated with SEND. Experience of working with Autistic children and using different AAC methods as part of intervention is essential. There will be opportunity to create and deliver training to parents and other professionals on SLC topics as required. Multidisciplinary working is essential to support our children and families so you will be required to work collaboratively with other health and education professionals.
You will work closely with the Specialist School Lead SLT to support the caseload and will also be responsible for supporting other B5 SLTs and SLTAs working into Schools. There may also be opportunity within the school year for the post holder to be involved in delivering interventions related to other clinical caseloads and pathways.
Qualification and experience in Paediatric Dysphagia would be desirable.

As the post is community based it may involve travelling to different school locations.A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work is essential., To provide a specialist service (including assessment, diagnosis and implementation of specialist SLT treatment) for children age 4-19yrs, attending Specialist School provision who have a range of speech, language and communication disorders/difficulties associated with Special Educational Needs and Disability
To contribute to Team working in the area of paediatric dysphagia (if appropriate training completed)
To work in collaboration with School staff and other Agencies/professionals involved with children in Specialist Schools
To develop and deliver training packages for different areas of speech, language and communication to promote workforce development within Specialist schools
To promote and develop neurodiversity affirming practice in supporting speech, language and communication needs within Specialist schools
To contribute to EHCP assessment and reviews
To regularly supervise the work of students and Speech and Language Therapy Assistants
