Full Job Description

We're looking for a caring and enthusiastic volunteer to support children's activity sessions at our supported temporary accommodation service in Luton.

As a volunteer, you'll help run play sessions that are enjoyable, creative and age-appropriate, giving children a safe and welcoming space where they can have fun, build confidence and feel supported.

Your support will go far beyond play activities. By keeping children happily engaged, you'll enable our staff to spend dedicated one-to-one time with their mothers, providing vital support, guidance and key work conversations in a private and comfortable setting.

By volunteering, you'll help:

Create positive experiences for children living in temporary accommodation
Provide a safe, welcoming and engaging environment for play and learning
Support women to access the help and guidance they need
Contribute to stronger outcomes for families during a challenging time

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of both children and their mothers, helping families feel supported, empowered and able to move forward with confidence.

What is the Commitment?

We are looking for volunteers who can make a regular commitment for a period of at least 6 months so that the children and mothers have the opportunity to build trusting relationships with you.

We can be flexible about the commitment you're able to make, though the volunteering must take place Monday-Friday, 9am - 5pm.

Bridge House is a female-only service, due to the nature of support that we provide.

We are looking for volunteers who are friendly, reliable, non-judgmental and empathetic, aligning with our trauma-informed approach to support.

Ideally, volunteers will have experience (personal or professional) in supervising and playing with groups of children of all ages. Beyond this, we are very open to what you can bring to the team!

What You Can Expect From Us

To support you and set you up for success in your volunteering role with us, you can expect that we will:

Work with you to find a volunteering arrangement that works for you and for the service. We will be as flexible as we can!
Reimburse you for agreed expenses relating to your volunteering.
Welcome you warmly into our team and support you to get the most from your experience.
Recognise and celebrate your contribution to the team! We can provide references to confirm your achievements and contributions upon request.

Provide regular supervision and opportunities to provide feedback on your experience
You will be eligible to register with Blue Light Discount Card.
