Full Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Band 6 Nurse to join our dynamic Acute Medical Unit (AMU) team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to take on greater responsibility in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment, where you will play a pivotal role in managing patient care and ensuring smooth patient flow.

As a Band 6 Nurse in the AMU, you will oversee the care of patients with a wide range of acute medical conditions, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide timely, effective care. You will be responsible for coordinating patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, ensuring high-quality care is maintained throughout the patient's journey. This includes leading on patient flow management and supervising junior staff while fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and compassionate care.

Your leadership skills will be put into practice as you support and guide your team, taking charge during board rounds with consultants and ensuring effective communication between the AMU, A&E, and the wider hospital. You will be responsible for identifying patients requiring multidisciplinary team (MDT) reviews and those needing transfer to other departments. You will work closely with A&E and the Operational Centre, promptly escalating any concerns to ensure smooth transitions in patient care.

Effective communication is essential, and you will regularly liaise with the clinical lead and junior doctors to promote efficient patient flow. Additionally, you will lead the board rounds with consultants twice a day, taking an active role in patient management.
