Full Job Description
Great governance is what lets great care happen. Join the board of Active Prospects, an award-winning organisation supporting people with learning disabilities, physical and mental health needs, and autistic people., We are looking for a new Chair of our Finance, Audit and Risk Committee to join a board that has a genuinely open and engaged relationship with our executive team. This is a role for someone who enjoys meaningful dialogue, who asks the questions that need to be asked and who is both supportive and challenging in equal measure. Our current Chair of the committee is stepping down from chairing the committee this year. Our Finance, Audit and Risk committee provides oversight and scrutiny of our financial health, audit processes and risk management framework. As Chair, you will work closely with our Director of Finance and Resources and the wider executive team, helping to ensure we remain financially resilient at a time when funding pressures across the social care sector are very real. We need trustees who understand that context and can help us navigate it with both rigour and humanity. Who we are looking for You will bring genuine financial expertise, whether as a finance director, chief financial officer, chief operating officer or similar, alongside a real interest in the social care sector and what it means to provide high-quality support to people with complex needs. You will not necessarily have chaired a committee before. What matters far more is that you have experience and understanding to contribute, the confidence to ask probing questions and the willingness to make this a genuine priority. We are looking for a Trustee who will be engaged and build relationships across the Board and team. You will be practical, enjoy working in dialogue with others, be genuinely curious about our organisation, our people, our challenges and our ambitions and have the capacity to make a real difference. We actively welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and particularly encourage candidates from underrepresented communities on our Board. Time commitment: Our Board meetings take place quarterly in person at our offices in Reigate, Surrey. This is usually at 6 p.m. There is also an annual governance day in November, a collaborative event that brings together staff, Trustees and the people we support to review strategy and shape priorities together. Our Finance, Audit and Risk Committee meets four times a year virtually at 5.30 p.m. We anticipate the time commitment to be approximately a day a month on average, including meetings, preparation, ad hoc conversations and attending events and visiting services throughout the year.
Active Prospects exist because everyone deserves to lead an aspiring life. For over 30 years, we have provided high-quality supported living, residential and community services across south-east England for people with learning disabilities, autistic people, and those with complex physical and mental health needs. Today, our team of around 500 people supports over 300 people each year, enabling them to do the ordinary things we all take for granted and, when the time is right, the extraordinary things they have always dreamed of. In 2024, we were certified as a Great Place to Work, with 95% of our staff saying they are proud of what we achieve together. We were also named Employer of the Year at the National Stars of Learning Disabilities Awards in December 2025, ranked 8th in the Large Employers category of the Great Places to Work survey and the highest-ranked social care employer. We are at an exciting and genuinely significant moment. Our new strategy 2025-8 sets out an ambitious plan, and we are actively exploring the pathway to becoming a Registered Social Landlord, a step that would open up new opportunities to develop more homes for the people we support. Sound governance and strategic oversight are central to making that ambition a reality. That is what makes this role so important to us right now., Placing purpose and quality before profit, Peridot Partners is a values-led third sector executive recruitment agency transforming leadership and inspiring change with organisations that have a social purpose. Since 2009, we have worked with organisations that want to grow and who appreciate and value good leadership, across the public, third and private sectors. The strength of our organisation comes from our cross-functional networks, our exceptional research team and our experience attracting people from all sectors to organisations with a social focus. We recruit to boards, executive positions and specialist functional roles such as fundraising, finance, and marketing and communications across a range of sectors, from social justice and health charities, foundations, grant-making organisations and think tanks to awarding bodies, training providers, schools, multi-academy trusts, colleges and universities, and student unions., "The Executive Team recruited by Peridot are fantastic! The team are one of the best I have seen and have successfully taken on the challenge of an organisation facing insolvency and led a turnaround in our fortunes, and into a successful merger that will safeguard further education in the city of Brighton." - Chair of the Corporation at Greater Brighton Metropolitan College We're driven by our values:
- Be brave - We champion and challenge in our own individual ways to improve outcomes for ourselves and our clients.
- Bring rigour - We're thorough, thoughtful and speak up for what's right.
- See the bigger picture - We build real partnerships and work together for long term success.
- Sense and respond - We respond in creative and meaningful ways to what's needed. Our intentions are clear: to achieve the best outcomes for our clients, our candidates, our people and our business. We develop long-term, deep-rooted relationships that bring real value to our partners across socially focused sectors. Diversity at our heart We do not believe in throwaway statements about diversity. Instead, diversity is at the heart of everything we do and is crucial to our success, reputation, and the organisations and people we work with. We understand that it is not good enough to simply not discriminate and we must do more to create positive change. With this in mind, we are proud that we have been actively working to become an Anti-Racist and more inclusive organisation. We recognise that unconscious bias exists and must be minimised. We have put processes in place to manage them. We have a position of influence as a recruitment company to make our positive contribution to change the systems that perpetuate discrimination, and with that comes a responsibility to do better. We work tirelessly to ensure we lead inclusive campaigns and projects that can encourage all members of society to apply and know that they will be treated with decency and respect. We support equal opportunities in employment and oppose all forms of unlawful or unfair discrimination based on gender, age, ethnic or national origin, religion, sexual orientation or disability. We believe that a diverse not for profit sector will provide better leadership to accelerate positive change in society. We are proud to have an exceptional track record of leading inclusive recruitment campaigns that enhance diversity of leadership teams and boards. As a recruitment partner, you can expect us to:
- Constructively challenge you if you have exclusive and restrictive criteria in your role profiles.
- Ensure the advertising materials for your role use inclusive language and imagery.
- Promote your role within sector-specific networking forums wherever possible (e.g. women, global ethnic majority, disabled and LGBTQIA+ networks).
- Put diversity at the heart of the projects we are undertaking when talking to your staff and board to ensure we are reflecting the people and communities you work with and for.
- Challenge inappropriate behaviour, practice and comments where required.
- Make reasonable adjustments as needed. Our commitment to building diverse organisations starts with us, and we are proud that women, LGBTQ+, disabled and people from ethnic minorities consider Peridot a great place to work.
