Full Job Description

Northampton General Hospital has an excellent opportunity for a Stores and Kitchen Porter to join our catering team. This role is essential to the smooth delivery of patient food services and supports the work of our chefs in the Central Production Kitchen.
As Kitchen and Stores Porter, you will:
+ Be responsible for the transportation of food between patient catering kitchens and wards.
+ Carry out date labelling and stock rotation to ensure food safety and compliance.
+ Assist with a variety of tasks within the kitchen environment to support daily operations.
· The receipt, storage, and distribution of goods, maintaining accurate records
· Receive and check deliveries, ensuring quality, quantity, and accuracy against invoices.
We are looking for someone who is:
+ Responsible, punctual, and flexible, with a strong work ethic.
+ Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and work effectively as part of a team.
+ Committed to maintaining high standards of hygiene and supporting patient care through safe food handling.
This is a vital role within our catering service, delivering patient essentials to ward and playing a pivotal role in meal delivery., The post holder's main duties will include, but are not limited to:
+ Food Safety & Compliance
+ Demonstrate awareness of Food Safety and work to the highest standards in both quality and hygiene.
+ Follow Food Safety and Health and Safety compliance, ensuring all Codes of Practice for Health, Hygiene, Safety, COSHH, and HACCP are adhered to.
+ Maintain thorough knowledge of food safety procedures, cleaning techniques, and standards within the kitchens.

+ Cleaning & Hygiene
+ Carry out cleaning duties to maintain hygiene levels across food production areas, ancillary rooms, fridges, and catering equipment.
+ Clean floors, surfaces, and machinery in line with departmental cleaning schedules.
+ Ensure all areas remain in a clean and hygienic state throughout production and service

Cleaning & Hygiene

Training & Procedures
Undertake on-the-job training and ensure all mandatory and job-specific training is completed and kept up to date.
Follow Trust-wide, Directorate, and Departmental procedures at all times.
Protective Clothing & Safe Practices
Wear protective clothing in line with policy.
Use approved safe methods when lifting and handling to prevent injury.
Workload & Organisation
Prioritise workload with minimal supervision, arranging tasks to achieve daily and weekly goals.
Provide support to other departmental areas when required.
Transportation & Stock Control
Safely transport food from the Central Production Kitchen to the Barratt Kitchen, returning empty trollies as required.
Deliver stock to ward kitchens across the Trust
Operate electric transportation vehicles in line with Trust policies.
Ensure correct storage, labelling, and rotation of chilled, dry, and frozen produce.
Reporting & Communication
Report any work difficulties or potential hazards, such as equipment defects, promptly to the line manager.
Lead by example, conducting yourself in a respectful and professional manner.
Maintain a pleasant, customer-focused attitude always.
Other Duties
Complete any other reasonable tasks as identified by the Senior Management Team to support catering services.
