Full Job Description

Our Early Intervention in Psychosis service is looking for a CBTp Therapist to add to its lively and caring team. We offer support to individuals aged 14-65 experiencing a First Episode of Psychosis, using a wide range of biopsychosocial interventions. This is a three day per week post, offering an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic practitioner to develop their skills and positively contribute to the already strong complement of therapies offered by the team. Good support and professional supervision is offered. Close relationships also exist with multi-agency partners and other specialist services. You will be responsible for the delivery of cognitive behavioural therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy for psychosis to a range of service users experiencing a first episode of psychosis. You will also play an integral role in assessing individuals newly referred to the service, and contributing to psychological formulation for those already on caseload. We are a county-wide based team and our operational working hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, with some flexibility when required to engage with our service users. We are committed to Agile working in accordance with MPFT trust policy and guidance. Travel across the county is to expected within the role., Working as a caseload holder with individuals experiencing a First Episode of Psychosis, you will have,

  • To provide specialist evidence-based CBT and CBTp psychological therapies within Shropshire Early Intervention in Psychosis Service as part of the implementation of the NICE quality standards for the treatment and management of people with psychosis and schizophrenia.
  • To offer and deliver psychological interventions to help support individuals and their families/carers to work together to cope and to reduce stress. Therefore supporting a person's overall recovery as part of a broad-based approach that combines different treatment options tailored to the needs of the individual.
  • Drawing upon complex assessment material to provide verbal and written formulations that aid evidence based clinical interventions for service users, families and other professionals. This will involve integrating and interpreting a range of highly complex material, across different contexts and at different levels of meaning.
  • The provision of highly specialist one-to-one clinical consultations to other clinical staff on the use of psychological interventions -CBT, and where appropriate, for working jointly with other team members in the provision of individual and group based programmes, contributing to the formulation, diagnosis and intervention plans for clients and their families
  • Initiate and participate in evaluating psychological approaches within particular areas of the service, so that the effects go beyond individual cases and improve the effective running of that service for the individuals and/or their families.
  • Contribute to the requirements of CPD provision and support the learning of multi-disciplinary staff team at all levels of expertise.
  • To provide supervision, consultation and training to colleagues from different disciplines within the EIT service keeping records of supervision and ensuring contracts in place in accordance with Trust and professional policy and guidelines.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the service through audit, practice based research, use of outcome measures and clinical measures.
  • In collaboration with the team lead to contribute to the ongoing service development including the consultation and engagement of service users in planning and developing services
  • To communicate skilfully and sensitively highly complex and sensitive information with clients, carers and colleagues taking account of sensory and cultural barriers to communication

    + Full qualification and sufficient experience at delivering CBT/CBTp interventions to individuals experiencing psychosis + Experience of having worked with young people who are experiencing or have been suspected of experiencing a First Episode of Psychosis + Knowledge of the philosophy around Early Intervention in Psychosis + The ability to demonstrate enthusiasm/commitment to our service user group + Effective interpersonal skills + A willingness to work assertively and creatively to engage our service users
