Catering Assistant

We're looking for a Catering Assistant who will deliver excellent service standards, while meeting SLA agreements and adhering to cleaning schedules.

Role ResponsibilitiesAs a Patient Catering Assistant, you will play an important role in ensuring patients receive a high-quality meal service during their hospital stay. Key responsibilities include:

-Taking patient meal orders using electronic tablet devices and ensuring all dietary requirements, allergies, and preferences are accurately recorded.

-Communicating with patients, nursing staff, and colleagues to provide an excellent patient-focused catering service.

-Assisting with the preparation, regeneration, and distribution of meals within the Regeneration Distribution Unit (RDU) following all training and procedures.

-Ensuring meals are served correctly and in accordance with food safety and temperature control standards.

-Preparing and maintaining ward service areas, meal trolleys, catering equipment, and associated service areas.

-Washing dishes, cutlery, catering equipment, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the catering department.

-Completing daily cleaning schedules and complying with all Food Safety, Health & Safety, infection prevention, and hospital policies.

-Accurately completing required records, documentation, and cleaning checks.

-Completing all mandatory training and e-learning modules required for the role.

Previous catering experience, particularly within a healthcare, hospitality, or customer service environment, is desirable but not essential.

-Basic Food Hygiene and Health & Safety certificates are desirable; full training will be provided.

-A basic understanding of spoken and written English is essential to communicate effectively with patients, ward staff, and colleagues, accurately use electronic meal ordering systems, and follow written procedures and training materials.

-Confidence using electronic devices or a willingness to learn tablet-based patient meal ordering systems.

-Excellent customer service skills with a caring and professional approach.

-Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy hospital environment.

-Good organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage time effectively.

-A flexible and reliable approach to work, with a willingness to undertake training within the RDU and other catering service areas.
