Caretaker

A welcoming and well-established school in Rochdale is seeking a reliable, proactive and hardworking Caretaker to join their site team from September 2026. The school is committed to providing a safe, secure and well-maintained environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring the school premises, buildings and grounds are maintained to a high standard. You will work closely with the school's leadership team and site staff to support the day-to-day running of the school and ensure the site remains safe, clean, secure and operational.

This role would suit someone with previous caretaking, facilities, maintenance or site-management experience who takes pride in their work and is confident working independently.

Key responsibilities:

- Ensuring the school buildings and grounds are safe, secure and well maintained

- Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs across the school site

- Completing regular checks of the buildings, facilities and external areas

- Opening and securing the school premises as required

- Responding promptly to maintenance issues and reporting larger repairs where necessary

- Supporting contractors and external visitors when working on site

- Maintaining school grounds, including basic gardening and outdoor upkeep

- Assisting with moving furniture, equipment and resources around the school

- Monitoring site security and ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed

- Maintaining appropriate records relating to site checks, maintenance and health and safety

- Supporting the school with emergency procedures and site-related incidents

Have previous experience in caretaking, maintenance, facilities or a similar role

- Be practical, reliable and able to use initiative

- Have good general maintenance and DIY skills

- Be confident identifying and reporting health and safety issues

- Be able to work independently and manage day-to-day tasks effectively

- Have good communication and organisational skills

- Be flexible and willing to respond to the changing needs of the school

- Have a professional and approachable manner

- Have a good understanding of safeguarding and site security

- Have the right to work in the UK
