Care Assistant

Sandwell Council is looking to recruit a Care Assistant to join our team at Willow Gardens Extra Care Service. This rewarding role involves providing high-quality care and support to adults aged 55 and over, including individuals with physical disabilities, mental health needs and dementia. You will help people maintain their independence, dignity and wellbeing while supporting them to live fulfilling lives within an Extra Care setting. Alongside providing personal care where required, you will support residents to take part in a wide range of social, recreational and wellbeing activities. These may include creative arts, celebrations and events throughout the year, gentle exercise sessions, games, bingo, entertainment and community outings. You will work as part of a committed team, helping to deliver personalised support that reflects the values and standards expected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Working Pattern The post is currently 18 hours per week over four days and may be subject to change to meet service requirements:

• Monday: 10:00am - 3:00pm
• Tuesday: 1:00pm - 5:00pm
• Wednesday: 10:00am - 3:00pm
• Friday: 1:00pm - 5:00pm
Flexibility is required to work Bank Holidays and other shifts as needed by the service. What You'll Be Doing
• Providing person-centred care and support to residents.
• Assisting with personal care, dressing, grooming and hygiene where required.
• Supporting individuals with eating and drinking.
• Encouraging participation in activities and social engagement.
• Promoting independence, dignity, choice and wellbeing.
• Maintaining a safe environment and adhering to health and safety procedures.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues, families, health professionals and partner agencies.
• Supporting residents in accordance with safeguarding and CQC standards.
• Maintaining accurate records and respecting confidentiality at all times.
  
  Willingness to undertake and complete the Care Certificate and work towards a recognised Level 2 Care qualification.
• Experience of working with or caring for older people, adults with disabilities, or individuals with mental health needs.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
• A caring, patient and empathetic approach.
• Commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Understanding of the importance of person-centred care and supporting individual choice.
Desirable -
• Experience within a residential, domiciliary or Extra Care setting.
• Knowledge of dementia care.
• Medication administration training or willingness to undertake training., This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check with Adults' Barred List clearance.
