Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years. This role will be within the CWA Wide Section.
What will you do?
Working within the wider ESG team, you will assist in the deployment of processes, systems and data to manage carbon across the Sizewell C project. As part of the carbon team, and reporting to the Carbon Manager you will support the delivery of the carbon strategy, ensuring alignment with PAS 2080, RICS aligned Whole Life Carbon Assessment and contractual requirements.
Principal Accountabilities, Activities and Decisions
Support the Carbon Manager in deploying the carbon measurement and opportunities process across all project disciplines.
Support the implementation of PAS 2080 carbon management requirements across the project, maintaining appropriate records, evidence and audit trails to support governance activities and demonstrate compliance.
Contribute to the carbon opportunities identification process by facilitating section carbon meetings, identifying carbon hotspots and working with design, procurement and delivery teams to identify opportunities to reduce embodied carbon through material selection, construction methodologies and supply-chain engagement.
Support the tracking and reporting of carbon reduction opportunities, monitoring progress against agreed actions and assisting project teams in evidencing realised carbon benefits.
Support the development, maintenance and periodic review of project carbon baselines, including the management of assumptions, scope boundaries, data quality issues and known uncertainties.
Communicate embodied carbon data, risks, opportunities and carbon reduction performance to project stakeholders using tools such as One Click LCA, MS Excel and Power BI.
Support stakeholders by providing carbon outputs for inclusion in Target Outturn Cost submissions, validating package baseline values for contracts and responding to carbon-related requests from delivery teams.
Engage with the supply chain to support the provision and review of carbon information, including Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), sourcing information and other supporting evidence.
Review carbon data and supporting evidence for completeness, consistency and suitability, identifying gaps, anomalies and opportunities for improvement.
Support the Carbon Manager and team in the collection, integration and interrogation of carbon data from all project stages, analysing information and extracting lessons and value to further progress the project's decarbonisation journey.
Work with internal stakeholders and supply-chain partners to obtain, review and improve carbon data and supporting evidence, linking technical, procurement, commercial and sustainability functions to support informed decision making.
Write, collate and manage best-practice examples and case studies to support knowledge transfer across projects and provide content for work-winning activities.
Prepare training and communication materials for both internal and external audiences in coordination with the wider sustainability and carbon teams.
Support internal knowledge groups on carbon measurement and management and contribute to the delivery of staff training and awareness activities.
What are we looking for?
Clear and effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders.
Strong collaborator, able to build effective working relationships across project teams and the supply chain.
Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to collect, interpret and communicate carbon data.
Rigorous and detail-oriented, with the ability to critically review information and identify data quality issues, opportunities and risks.
Well organised, proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver work to agreed timescales.
Able to listen, learn quickly, challenge constructively and apply sound judgement when evaluating options and solutions.
Demonstrable knowledge of embodied carbon measurement principles and PAS 2080 in the context of carbon reduction, sustainability and the decarbonisation of the built environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and One Click LCA or equivalent carbon assessment tools used for data analysis, reporting and presentation.
Engineering, Architecture, Environmental, Sustainability, Commercial or other relevant technical/scientific degree, or equivalent experience with 2-3 years' experience within engineering, construction, infrastructure, sustainability or a related discipline.
Experience supporting the collection, analysis or reporting of carbon, environmental or sustainability-related data including reviewing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and supply chain carbon information.
