Full Job Description
We are looking to recruit a suitable part-time individual (31 hours per week average) as a Car Park Patrol person at Royal Lancaster Infirmary site. Duties include, regularly patrolling the hospital site to ensure the appropriate use of the car parks, ensuring that roadways and access roads remain free from obstruction; to act as a deterrent to theft and vandalism and, to assist in dealing with untoward security incidents. You will may also be required to offer some support to General Office services., You will be required to patrol the hospital car parks to ensure compliance with the Trust Car Park Policy in a firm but sympathetic manner and, to act as a deterrent to theft and vandalism across the site. You will be expected to support arrangements in providing a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and staff which entail liaison with hospital wards and departments and, external agencies. You will be physically fit, of smart appearance, have good verbal communication skills, a flexible manner and be able to work both as part of a team and using your own initiative. Anyone newly appointed to the Trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff). This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment. Appropriate training and uniform is provided.Working for our organisation We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay., The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
- Basic education. GCSE level or equivalent
- Previous experience dealing with the general public/people.
- Excellent verbal communication skills written and verbal
- Ability to use own initiative, make decisions and act accordingly
- Experience in using basic IT systems
- Be able to work on a flexible rotating shift pattern that covers 7 day working Desirable criteria
- Previous experience working in a car parking, security, facilities, or site services environment
- Previous experience of car parking,security duties and administrative duties
- Security awareness qualification
- Driving license

In line with other NHS organisations in the North West Region, the Trust is now passing the charge for undertaking a DBS check on to candidates in the event they are successfully appointed into the post for which they have applied. Candidates can choose whether to pay this over 1-3 months as a deduction from the monthly salary. The cost of an Enhanced Disclosure will be £55.38 and for a Standard Disclosure will be £27.38.
Cover is provided 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The post holder will work a rotating shift pattern spread across seven days, including evening and weekend shifts. Hours of cover / shifts are between 0700hrs and 2100hrs on a rotating shift pattern operating over a 6 week period.
