Full Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity for a Learning Disability Nurse or Learning Disability Practitioner (with a core profession such as social work or allied health professional) to join Hampshire CAMHS Learning Disability/Autism Team at a key time in its development.
You will be part of a skilled and passionate multidisciplinary team, including nurses, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and psychologists, delivering high-quality assessments and interventions for children and young people with learning disabilities. As the service continues to grow, you will have a real opportunity to shape its future and influence how care is delivered.
We are committed to supporting your career, offering strong supervision, training, and development opportunities to build your confidence and clinical expertise. Our leadership team is approachable and values staff wellbeing, promoting a healthy work-life balance.
We are looking for someone who is creative, motivated, and enjoys working as part of a supportive team. If you are passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with learning disabilities and their families, we would love to hear from you.
This post is advertised at Band 6, with the option of a Band 5-6 development role. If appointed at Band 5, you will receive a structured development plan and close support from a senior nurse to progress to Band 6.
Main duties of the job
At present, the Trust is unable to offer Skilled Worker visa sponsorship for this post. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK at the time of application.
In this role, you will deliver high-quality assessments and interventions for children and young people with moderate to severe learning disabilities, many of whom present with mental health needs or behaviours that challenge. You will carry out initial assessments, contribute to duty, deliver one-to-one and group interventions, and take part in neurodevelopmental assessments.
Using your specialist skills, you will support a range of care pathways, working closely with families and alongside a multidisciplinary team including senior nurses, non-medical prescribers, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and psychologists. You will also play an important role in supervising junior staff, mentoring students, and contributing to the ongoing development of the team and service.
Based at Osborne Centre, Fareham alongside other members of the team, you will be part of a county-wide service. There will be opportunities to work across Hampshire, supporting areas of need, with travel time recognised within your job plan.
This is a varied and rewarding role suited to someone adaptable, organised and committed to delivering person-centred care, who enjoys collaborative working and making a meaningful difference.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides joined-up mental and physical healthcare for around two million people across our communities. With over 13,000 staff working in the community and local hospitals, we deliver care at every stage of life, helping people live their best and healthiest lives.
Our mental health services include community-based support and early intervention in psychosis (EIP) for both adults and young people, alongside a network of specialist inpatient wards covering forensic, learning disability, eating disorder and older person's care.
We deliver extensive physical health services too, from urgent community response teams helping frail and older patients remain safely at home, to hospitals at home teams providing acute-level care in familiar surroundings. Our neurological services offer rehabilitation and treatment for conditions including Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Head Injury, Cerebral Palsy and Stroke. Across Hampshire, our community hospitals provide inpatient rehabilitation as a step down from acute care, and our dedicated teams also staff Treetops Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Portsmouth, offering expert, compassionate support.
Everything we do is underpinned by our CARE values of compassion, accountability, respect and excellence
