Full Job Description

As Business Manager, you will provide high-quality operational support to the Division, ensuring that its resources are managed effectively and that the team is well positioned to deliver its strategic and operational objectives. You will take responsibility for the effective stewardship of divisional resources, including finance, staffing, space and facilities, supporting the continued quality and efficiency of services. You will contribute to the development and implementation of strategic and operational plans, helping the Division translate its objectives into effective day-to-day delivery. You will support the leadership and management of the Division, including maintaining strategic risks and issues, while managing a range of operational activity such as meetings, events, diaries and associated arrangements. You will support workforce planning and staffing, including recruitment, retention, induction and learning and development. You will manage divisional budgets and expenditure tracking, supporting forecasting and financial reporting processes. You will also coordinate divisional leadership and management meetings, ensuring agendas, papers, actions and follow-up are effectively managed, and prepare high-quality reports, papers and presentation materials for UCL governance and senior stakeholders. The role will involve managing and coordinating Faculty Operations meetings, boards and events, as well as maintaining divisional SharePoint and Teams sites, communications documentation and presentation materials. You will work closely with services including Finance, HR and Estates, responding to requests for information and support and ensuring effective coordination across UCL. This is an excellent opportunity for a business management professional who enjoys working across a complex organisation, building effective relationships and bringing structure, organisation and momentum to a varied portfolio of activity. Please note, this is an internal recruitment advert, available to eligible UCL workers only. The role is offered on a fixed-term contract or secondment basis to cover the substantive postholder until 31 October 2027. The role is offered on a full-time basis, with hybrid working available - currently 2-3 days per week in our London Kings Cross office (subject to change).

We are looking for an experienced business management or operations professional with a track record of providing excellent support services in a complex organisation. You will have experience of managing budgets, risks and staff recruitment, alongside strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied and demanding workload. You will be confident producing high-quality reports, papers and presentation materials and organising meetings, events and workshops. You will be proactive and responsive, with a strong focus on understanding and meeting the needs of colleagues, stakeholders and partners. You will be comfortable working with a wide range of people across UCL and able to build productive relationships, negotiate effectively and influence others to get things done. You will have excellent organisational, IT, literacy and numeracy skills, alongside the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. You will be able to make sense of complex issues, including where information is incomplete, and bring a collaborative and solutions-focused approach to working across organisational boundaries. You will also demonstrate a commitment to UCL's Ways of Working, including making inclusivity, diversity and intercultural awareness central to your actions and decision-making. Experience of creating and maintaining SharePoint or Teams sites, alongside financial management, budgeting and financial reporting and analysis skills, would be desirable. A degree or relevant experience in Business Management or HR would also be welcomed.
