Full Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Business Manager to drive the work of the North Somerset Safeguarding Adults Board (NSSAB) - a vital multi-agency partnership dedicated to protecting adults with care and support needs. This is a unique and high-impact role where you'll work alongside senior leaders across the Local Authority, Integrated Care Board, Police, and wider partners, shaping how safeguarding is delivered across the whole system.

  • Overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Board and its executive groups
  • Driving forward multi-agency priorities and delivery plans
  • Providing expert advice, guidance, and constructive challenge to partners
  • Leading the development of engagement, training, and communication strategies
  • Coordinating audits, self-assessments, and performance reporting
  • Representing the Board regionally and promoting its work widely
  • Ensuring learning from reviews is embedded and translated into measurable improvements
  • In this role, you will be Reporting directly to the Independent Chair of the NSSAB, you will be at the heart of coordinating, leading, and shaping the Board's business. You will:
  • Lead the strategic and operational delivery of the Safeguarding Adults Board
  • Drive the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan and Annual Report
  • Build strong, effective partnerships across statutory, voluntary, and private sectors
  • Ensure robust governance, quality assurance, and performance frameworks are in place
  • Manage and coordinate Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARs), ensuring learning leads to real change
  • Champion the voice of service users, carers, and communities
  • Support the Independent Chair and partner agencies to deliver national standards and local priorities
  • This is a role where your work will genuinely improve practice, influence decisions, and strengthen safeguarding across North Somerset. This post is based at the Town Hall in Weston-super-Mare. Work Style At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated. This role falls into the category of Mobile/Field Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:
  • 0-1 day in the office
  • Includes field workers who primarily work remotely.
  • Comes into the office for meetings or focused work. Virtual connections with the team are essential, with portable technology supporting work on the go.

    We are looking for an individual who is passionate about Safeguarding and who possesses the following skills and experience:
  • Strong understanding of adult safeguarding, national policy, and best practice
  • Experience of working across organisational and professional boundaries
  • Proven ability in partnership working and stakeholder engagement
  • Experience of quality assurance, performance management, and governance frameworks
  • Excellent analytical and report-writing skills
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and influencing skills
  • The confidence to challenge constructively at a senior level
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage complex priorities and deadlines
