Full Job Description

We are seeking a reliable Building Services Assistant to join our Estates team at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The role supports the day-to-day maintenance of the Trust's buildings, helping to ensure a safe, compliant and well-maintained environment for patients, staff and visitors.You will carry out a range of routine maintenance duties including ventilation grille cleaning, minor plumbing, general building repairs, inspections and responding to Estates helpdesk requests. Working closely with Estates Technicians and supervisors, you will support planned and reactive maintenance across clinical and non-clinical areas.The ideal candidate will have practical maintenance experience, a strong focus on safety and compliance, good teamwork skills and the ability to use IT systems to record work.,

  • Support the safe and efficient operation of Trust buildings by understanding the basic workings of key engineering services, plant and building systems, ensuring they are maintained to a high standard
  • Report faults, defects, and building fabric issues promptly to the Supervisor/Manager to ensure timely repair and service continuity
  • Carry out routine physical inspections across the estate to identify defects, poor asset condition or operational issues, reporting findings and recommended actions using the CAFM system
  • Undertake ventilation grille cleaning and related mechanical tasks in line with HTM 03-01, ensuring patient areas meet required environmental and IPC standards
  • Carry out minor plumbing tasks such as unblocking waste systems, repairing taps, addressing leaks and supporting general water system maintenance
  • Support statutory domestic water safety tasks including temperature testing, flushing and recording results in accordance with legionella guidance.
  • Identify adverse water safety results and take basic corrective action within competence, escalating issues as required.
  • Assist with general building fabric repairs and handyman duties including fixtures, fittings, door adjustments, minor carpentry, and basic maintenance tasks.
