Full Job Description

Reporting to the Deputy Head of Building Operations, the Schwarzman Centre Building Operations Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operational running of the Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, a multi-purpose building open to the public combining multiple academic departments, a major Bodleian Humanities Library and a range of performance and exhibition spaces. Located within the building are a Concert Hall, Theatre, Cinema, Black Box experimental space, Exhibition Hall, three Music Studios and a Rehearsal Hall. You will help lead building-level health and safety compliance, working with colleagues across the University to maintain procedures, documentation and records, carry out inspections and audits, and ensure issues are addressed effectively. You will be responsible for building wide support and optimal management and coordination of the facilities. You will also work closely with the facilities management team, operational teams and contractors to resolve building issues and maintain a high standard of service.

You will have experience of working in a large and complex organisation and a strong knowledge of health and safety legislation within a public venue environment. Highly organised and proactive, you will be comfortable managing competing priorities, solving problems and taking the initiative to keep services running effectively. You will have experience of supervising staff or contractors and the interpersonal skills to build positive working relationships with colleagues, building users, facilities teams and external suppliers. You will be confident working independently, delivering to tight deadlines and communicating clearly with people at all levels. Experience of operating a complex multi-functional building with performance or cultural facilities would be particularly valuable. Practical building operations or facilities management experience, familiarity with building management or scheduling software, and experience of fire, intruder or access control systems would also be an advantage. The duties and skills required are described in further detail in the job description.

As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees' wellbeing and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:

  • An excellent contributory pension scheme
  • 38 days' annual leave
  • Family leave schemes and a comprehensive range of childcare services
  • Cycle loan scheme and discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans
  • Membership to a variety of social and sports club
