Job Description
BricklayerThe ArmyUnited KingdomFull-time; Permanent£26,334 a year (after training)Build bridges, buildings, runways and more across the world. As a full-time soldier, entry-level Bricklayer in the British Army, youll: Become a qualified bricklayer and concreter ready to work on infrastructure projects Learn general construction, scaffolding, concreting, block laying and task planning Learn to work under tough conditions across the world Study for qualifications including a NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Bricklaying and Concreting (Military Engineering) To qualify, you must: Be between 16 years 6 months and 35 years 6 months Have a GCSE Grade A-C/9-5 or Scottish National 5 in Maths, English Language and one other subject Be able to pass a basic fitness test.
Set yourself up for life
From the start of your training, youll earn £26,334 a year which will go up as you progress in your career. From your first day of training, youll be gaining transferrable skills that could set you up for life. You dont need to know how to do the job before you get here, because well give you all the training you need.
- Step 1: initial military training teaching you how to be a soldier; basic military training if youre a Junior Soldier and adult basic training if youre a Regular Soldier.
- Step 2: 12 weeks at the Royal School of Military Engineering where youll learn military engineering skills including demolition and bridge building.
- Step 3: 33 weeks of technical training at the Royal School of Engineering learning about brickwork, scaffolding and concreting.
- Annual leave: 30 days every year (plus bank holidays and extra leave after operations).
- Benefits: free medical and dental care, cheaper living costs, free gym and sports facilities.
- Schedule: normally 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, unless away on operations or training exercises.
- Travel: travel the world and participate in the Army's adventurous training, with dedicated time for sports you love.
