Full Job Description
The post holder will provide clinical leadership and specialist expertise within their field, delivering high-quality information, advice and support to patients, their families and carers. They will act as a key resource for the multi-professional team, sharing specialist knowledge to support best practice and patient-centred care. The role involves coordinating patient care to ensure continuity and a seamless experience throughout the care pathway.
The post holder will play a central role in reviewing and developing the service in line with the changing needs of the patient group, demonstrating extensive knowledge and experience across all aspects of the specialty. They will exercise clinical leadership through effective education, supervision and support within their area of practice. Responsibilities also include monitoring and improving standards of care through clinical audit and leading the development of practice through research and service evaluation. In addition, the post holder will carry out diagnostic and treatment-based clinical procedures appropriate to the specialist role., The post holder will provide specialist advice and support to patients through effective listening, counselling skills, and the delivery of clear, sensitive information. They will demonstrate empathy and compassion, offering both verbal and written advice regarding diagnosis, prognosis, treatment options and ongoing care. The role involves providing holistic support to patients diagnosed through the Symptomatic Breast Service and supporting them throughout decision-making, including treatment choices and participation in clinical trials, while maintaining evidence-based practice. Effective communication and close liaison with members of the multidisciplinary team is essential to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care.
The post holder will educate and advise patients and their relatives, source and provide appropriate information resources, and attend weekly multidisciplinary breast meetings. Under the direction of the Breast Care Nurses, they will assist in the development and implementation of integrated care pathways. An accessible telephone advice service will be provided for patients with concerns relating to symptoms or treatment. The role also includes acting as a patient advocate, ensuring patients' rights are respected and supporting informed decision-making through clear discussion and collaboration with the wider clinical team.
