Full Job Description
We're delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed Transfusion Practitioner to join our Clinical Haematology team at Broomfield Hospital.
This is a rewarding role within a supportive and forward-thinking transfusion service, where you'll work closely with the wider Transfusion Practitioner team across Mid and South Essex Hospitals. We're looking for someone who is motivated, passionate about patient safety, and eager to contribute to a dynamic, collaborative service that makes a real difference every day.
As a Transfusion Practitioner, you'll play a key role in promoting safe, effective blood transfusion practice, supporting clinical teams, and helping drive continuous improvement across the organisation. You'll bring strong professional knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to improving patient outcomes.
You must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) (as appropriate) and work in line with professional codes of practice. Maintaining Continuing Professional Development in line with NMC/HCPC requirements is essential and fully supported within the role.
If you're ready to develop your expertise, work with an engaged multidisciplinary team, and play a vital role in patient safety and quality care, we'd love to hear from you.
Apply today and be part of something truly impactful.
Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and service users across face-to-face, telephone, and electronic platforms, escalating issues to senior staff when required. Lead the promotion of safe, appropriate, and cost-effective transfusion practice across Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. Provide a specialist advisory service to patients, medical staff, and primary care colleagues on all aspects of blood transfusion.
Work autonomously to develop nursing practice, service delivery, and specialist training programmes to ensure high-quality, cost-effective transfusion services. Provide strategic leadership to the Hospital Transfusion Group to ensure compliance with national guidance, including Better Blood Transfusion and all relevant safety, quality, and clinical governance standards.
Develop and implement communication strategies to improve awareness of blood and blood product usage, highlighting clinical governance issues. Lead quality improvement and audit initiatives to promote alternatives to transfusion and evaluate standards of care. Represent the Trust at local, regional, and national transfusion meetings. Investigate serious transfusion incidents, liaising with SHOT and SABRE as required. Contribute to the Emergency Blood Shortage Management Team and planning processes.
Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients, and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.
We aim to make the most of our skills and experiences so we can become the best we can be. As one organisation we will recruit the finest and retain more specialist staff due to more employment opportunities across our Trust.
