Full Job Description
37.5 hours | 2-year Fixed Term | New Cross Hospital (with cross-site working at Walsall Manor) Hybrid role with specialist training + research opportunities. Leading the management of Blood-Borne Virus test results (HIV/Hepatitis B and C) from the Emergency Department, ensuring timely follow-up and coordination of onward care. The post is based at New Cross Hospital, but will also provide an opportunity to collaborate with colleagues at Walsall Manor Hospital. The role includes supervising junior staff, contributing to service development, and potentially opportunity to undertake research nurse responsibilities. Hybrid opportunities include structured training in HIV and Sexual Health departments., Lead on reviewing and managing ED BBV test results, including results for HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. The role requires understanding of all 'non-negative' results including equivocal and unconfirmed results and management of untested or inadequate samples
Ensure timely review, tracking and communication of results, including being proactive in finding ways to contact difficult to reach patients. This will involve liaising with a wide range of secondary care teams, primary care and community partners.
Provide advanced patient support and case management for BBV-positive results. This will involve liaising with HIV teams and Hepatology teams to ensure patients with positive test results are accessing the appropriate care.
Ensure accurate data on ED BBV testing is collated and submitted to national portals
Contribute to service development, audits, and quality improvement projects
Be willing to undertake research opportunities, including recruitment to studies, data collection, and supporting clinical trials.
Deliver teaching sessions on BBV awareness, sexual health, and HIV.
Ensure compliance with infection control, safeguarding, and national guidelines.
Engage in structured training opportunities within HIV and Sexual Health departments.
