Bladder and Renal Clinical Nurse Specialist

The role of the Bladder and Renal CNS is to provide specialist nursing advice, care and support to patients with bladder and renal cancer. They will facilitate high quality, personalised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers, both inpatients and outpatients in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and in line with local and national targets.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will work alongside the Consultant Urologist in supporting patients referred via two-week rule with suspected bladder or renal cancer., The nurse specialist is an experienced registered nurse with the necessary skills to assess and treat patients and manage the clinical environment, in liaison with the management and consultant team. The nurse will act as an autonomous practitioner and as a core member of the multi-disciplinary team within Urology to provide the highest possible standards of care for patients with urological disease. This will involve triaging new patients through investigations to a diagnosis whereby the patient will either be discharged into the community or referred on to the bladder and renal cancer CNS.

The CNS will develop new areas of practice, with nursing and consultant staff, ensuring the Trust's quality standards is met. They will work closely with the interdisciplinary team and collaborate with colleagues to ensure that high quality patient care is maintained.
