Bioscience - Technical Specialist Team Leader

You will be the team leader of a small Specialist Technical team, providing dedicated support and specialist facility management across our Bioscience programmes and Research.

The team are responsible for maintaining and managing the specialist lab environments, organisation of practical class set up, demonstrating practical techniques, and actively supporting students and academic colleagues.

The role

You will be responsible for ensuring high standards of health and safety and laboratory support are maintained. Within the role of Team Leader you will also be expected to be an active member of the team, supporting lab activities and working alongside colleagues to maintain and develop the specialist facilities.

This is an exciting time to join the team as we have just achieved LEAF (Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework) bronze certification. As Team Leader you will be expected to work with the team to continue to reduce our carbon footprint by improving the efficiency and sustainability of our laboratories identifying actions and initiating change working towards gold certification.

You will play a fundamental role leading a small team, whilst working very closely with the academic team forging effective and lasting professional relationships whilst creating a professional and welcoming lab experience for students, staff and researchers.

The successful candidate will have a vast experience of working in a laboratory environment, managing various equipment and resources. You will need to be able to evidence your ability to be able to effectively lead and guide a team.

Alongside your team you will be expected to provide support and guidance across all areas such as microbiology, molecular genetics/biology, cellular pathology, histology, biochemistry, and haematology. It is expected that the successful candidate may be more experienced in some areas than others and this is where a strong laboratory background with transferable skills is necessary, with a willingness learn and work closely with your team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic manager with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, experience of previously working in a higher education is desirable but not essential.
