Full Job Description

Applications are invited for a suitably qualified, experienced and HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to work in our Haematology and Blood Transfusion Department at Russells Hall Hospital site, as part of the BCPS. Our forward looking and dynamic department employs modern equipment and automated processes to deliver a quality routine service to the Trust. Our analytical platforms are currently provided by Sysmex UK for FBC and Werfen ACL350s for coagulation. Blood transfusion use the Ortho Swift analysers., The successful candidate will be an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with Specialist Portfolio or equivalent and have experience working in a clinical laboratory. Experience of working out of hours will be an advantage. HCPC registered candidates working towards their specialist portfolio will also be considered, but will be paid at band 5 until they have attained their specialist portfolio.

Consideration will also be given to applicants working toward their registration portfolio with suitable laboratory experience.
If successful you will work in our routine automated sections in both Haematology and Blood Transfusion. Once fully trained, there will be a requirement to take part in the 24 hour shift working rota over 7 days. This includes evening, weekend, bank holiday and overnight work.

The Trust is a supportive working environment committed to creating flexible working arrangements that suit your needs and as such will consider all requests from applicants who wish to work flexibly., Biomedical Scientists are responsible for analysing samples to provide accurate, useful and timely laboratory information for detecting, diagnosing and monitoring disease states. They are also responsible for providing blood products that are safe and suitable for individual patients prescribed by authorised medical personnel.
Biomedical Scientists are expected to work their core contracted hours within the 24 hour working arrangements in accordance with Agenda for Change.
BMS's rotate between Haematology and Blood Transfusion. Rotation will vary depending upon service needs, individual areas of interest and ability.
BMS staff are required to maintain their competency in all areas of their duties. Aspects of individual involvement may alter as competencies evolve over time.
