Biomedical Scientist - Haematology & Blood Transfusion Department

An opportunity has arisen for a motivated Biomedical Scientist in Haematology and Blood Transfusion at University Hospitals Dorset, The Transfusion department is keen and progressive contributing to several NHSBT pilots where possible; Bournemouth is one of four full sites for the Integrated Stock Management Scheme. Transfusion also offers opportunity to contribute to the clinical trials we are participating in, and we have a very keen interest in patient blood management. We are fully automated with Bio-Rad IH500 analysers, electronic issue, Electronic Dispatch Note, and full Haemonetics blood tracking from vein to vein.

The Haematology & Blood Transfusion department is part of the Blood Sciences department of University Hospitals Dorset. The post is a cross site position with the main base being at Bournemouth Hospital, and cross site working at Poole on a rotational basis as rostered. The modern department offers a wide range of diagnostic testing facilities for Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals as well as local GP practices. The department is fully UKAS accredited and an IBMS accredited training laboratory.

The successful candidate will regularly rotate through all sections of the Haematology & Blood Transfusion department and will be required to participate in the 24/7 shift system.

Candidates for the post will hold an IBMS accredited degree or are awaiting the outcome. Ideally, candidates will have completed or are working towards completion of the IBMS registration portfolio to become HCPC registered., Our values define who we are as #TeamUHD.
