Biomedical Scientist

North West London Pathology (NWLP) is recruiting a band 5/6 Biomedical Scientist to the Chem/ Haematology & Transfusion Blood Science Laboratory based at Hammersmith. The BMS will rotate around the sections to learn about the service, to work in a well-equipped environment with a high level of (pre-analytical and analytical) automation together with the opportunity to work with more specialised technology in the special assays laboratory. The successful candidate will be supported by a warm experienced team of senior BMS, Chem/ Haematology & Transfusion Team and clinical lead. Chemsitry, Haematology & Transfusion experience is not mandatory, but a good working knowledge of Chem/ Haematology & Transfusion issues is essential, hence applications are invited from suitably experienced Biomedical Scientists from any discipline. The Blood Science Service is a multi-site service on the six hospitals within the NWLP network, and on some occasions the successful candidate may be required to work on any of these sites to cover a shift. The successful applicants will be encouraged to study towards an IBMS Specialist Diploma in Chemistry/ Haem & Transfusion; on successful completion they will promote to a band 6 role within this post. They will consolidate their experience by deputising for senior Biomedical Scientists. This is a 37.5 hours per week role with weekend and Late shift obligations. Main duties of the job

• Take part in staff rotation, providing a high-quality analytical service in all sections, followingstandard operating procedures.
• Contributes to providing a professional laboratory service, working effectively as a teammember as part of the overall department.
• Provides basic clinical technical services to patients that may include research and audit.
As a registered BMS you will be:
• Encouraged to undertake specialist training in the relevant discipline leading to the attainment of the IBMS Specialist Diploma.
• Able to perform all core scientific and interpretive work, which corresponds to the trainingand qualifications of a Registered Healthcare Scientist.

• IBMS Accredited BSc Biomedical Science degree
• Completed registration portfolio
• Registration with the HCPC as a biomedical scientist, Detail-oriented and methodical: Ability to follow instructions precisely and maintain well-organized work processes.
• Numerate and quick learner: Proficient with numerical data and able to rapidly grasp new concepts and techniques.
• Adaptable to high-pressure environments: Capable of maintaining composure and productivity under pressure.
• Willingness to handle biological materials: Prepared to work safely with biological specimens as part of laboratory duties.

• Basic scientific skills appropriate to a pathology laboratory
• Demonstrates continual learning through academic or practical experience.

• Work experience in a relevant diagnostic laboratory.

  The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.
