+ To carry out the analysis of patient samples, quality controls (QC) and external quality assessment samples (EQA) according to departmental SOPs and departmental Quality Assurance Policy.
+ To ensure that specialist equipment within the area of work is functioning efficiently through good housekeeping, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
+ Technical validation of patient results.
+ Communicate effectively with clinicians, nurses and other service users on information of a technical nature.
+ To undertake shift work including evening, weekend and night work. DBS Checks
Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in 1 payment or over a six month period once you start employment. By applying you are agreeing to this undertaking. An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Biomedical Scientist with HCPC registration to work within the Haematology and Blood Transfusion Laboratories at York Hospital.
This is a full time vacancy 37.5 hours per week and the successful candidate will be expected to participate on the 24/7 shift rota when suitably trained and competency is achieved. Applications will be considered from those working towards completion of the IBMS specialist portfolio in Haematology and Blood Transfusion. The Trust supports automatic run through of Band 5 to Band 6 upon successful completion of the IBMS specialist portfolio.
The department is fully equipped with the Sysmex XN series for Haematology, Sysmex CN for Coagulation, Grifols technology and Haemonetics Blood Tracking in Blood Transfusion . The laboratory is UKAS accredited and has recently gone live with Winpath Enterprise LIMS.

Relocation Package
