Full Job Description

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and highly motivatedBiomaterials Laboratory Technician to join Professor Dame Molly Stevens's laboratory at the Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery, University of Oxford. This is a varied and rewarding role that will be central to the effective operation of a world-leading interdisciplinary research laboratory. The postholder will support the day-to-day management of laboratory facilities, equipment, consumables, and Health & Safety processes, while also providing administrative support to help ensure the smooth running of the research group. The role will have a particular focus on supporting the biomaterials and biofabrication activities of the laboratory. Full training will be provided; however, experience of working in a laboratory environment and familiarity with biomaterials, biological and/or chemical techniques, and relevant Health & Safety procedures would be advantageous. The laboratory brings together expertise across materials science, chemistry, biology, bioengineering and medicine to tackle major challenges in human health through highly interdisciplinary research. The successful candidate will join a vibrant and collaborative research environment, working closely with researchers across the University of Oxford and partner institutions to advance innovative approaches in disease modelling, regenerative medicine and translational biotechnology. The lab is strategically affiliated with both the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics and the Institute of Biomedical Engineering within the Department of Engineering Science.,

  • Serve as a key member of the Stevens Group professional services team, providing technical and administrative support to ensure the effective operation of the research group.
  • Manage laboratory infrastructure, including the organisation of laboratory spaces, equipment, consumables, and shared resources.
  • Maintain electronic laboratory inventory systems and coordinate the procurement, receipt, storage, and distribution of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Manage purchasing processes for laboratory and office supplies, including raising purchase orders and card transactions, and liaise with senior team members regarding budgets and expenditure.
  • Provide technical support to research programmes as required, including assisting with routine laboratory procedures and experimental activities.

    Educated to at least A-level or equivalent qualification in science.
  • Experience of working in a laboratory or research support environment.
  • Experience managing and auditing laboratory inventories.
  • Ability to identify and resolve practical laboratory and operational issues in a proactive and effective manner.
  • Strong attention to detail, with experience maintaining accurate sample and inventory records, ideally using laboratory inventory management platforms.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a laboratory environment.
  • Good IT skills including Office, Teams, SharePoint, ELN, inventory software, and hardware (e.g. data storage, ancillary IT equipment).
