Full Job Description

As a Benefit Assessor, you will play a vital role in supporting financially vulnerable residents. You'll interpret and apply complex benefit legislation to determine accurate awards, identify and prevent fraud and error, and ensure that public resources are used effectively to help those most in need.,

  • Accurately assess and process Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, and Discretionary Award claims in line with legislation, guidance, and local policy.
  • Provide excellent customer service by explaining complex information clearly and compassionately to residents.
  • Analyse financial and personal information to make informed and evidence-based decisions.
  • Manage a varied caseload effectively, maintaining high levels of accuracy while working to deadlines.
  • Contribute to continuous service improvement and uphold high standards of integrity and professionalism.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively as part of a supportive and high-performing team.

  • We are looking for motivated and detail-focused Benefit Assessors to join our team (experience within a benefits environment preferable, but not essential) You will be responsible for processing Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, and Discretionary Award applications accurately and efficiently, ensuring fair outcomes for residents while safeguarding public funds.,
  • Proven experience in assessing Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, and Discretionary Awards, with a strong understanding of relevant legislation and policy.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver accurate and efficient assessments under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills - able to explain complex information clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage workload effectively.
  • Commitment to providing outstanding customer service and supporting continuous improvement.
  • Desirable Skills
  • Experience using NEC Revenues and Benefits, NEC Document Management System, and Microsoft Office applications.
