Bank Occupational Therapist Band 6

We have an opportunity for a motivated and experienced Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic Therapy Team at Barnet Hospital - part of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. This post is via the staff Bank and would involve working up to 37.5 hours per week. The Therapy teams at Barnet Hospital provide an integrated therapy service in the following areas:

• Stroke
• Neurology
• Emergency Department and Admission Avoidance
• Acute Medicine
• Surgery (including Head & Neck surgery)
• Acute Respiratory Care (including Non-Invasive Ventilation) across the Enhanced Care Unit and ward
• Critical Care
• Acute cardiology
• Health Services for Elderly People (HSEP)
• Trauma & Orthopaedics
The successful applicant will beexpected to manage their own clinical caseload and supervise other staff as appropriate, whilst being supported by highly skilled and experienced band 7 and 8 staff in the relevant specialty. You will be working in a rewarding and challenging clinical environment. · To manage a defined caseload, using evidence based/patient centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate occupational therapy interventions.
• To provide leadership for junior staff, as delegated by supervisor.
• To supervise occupational therapy students on practice placements.
• To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner whilst facilitating effective multidisciplinary care within relevant clinical areas.
• To work in an integrated therapy team including other occupational therapists, physiotherapists, dietitians, speech and language therapists, therapy support workers and administration support.
• To provide an advanced standard of occupational therapy assessment and treatment to inpatients without direct supervision. Access to advice and support from a team lead is available as and when required. Clinical work is routinely evaluated.
• To work with patient's families or carers to provide an advanced level of support, education and expectation of the outcome of the inpatient stay.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES 1.To be professional, legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work,including the management of patients in your care and support more junior staff to do likewise. 2.To be able to analyse clinical and social information from a range of sources and integrate this into your assessment in order to identify goals, develop a treatment plan and deliver patient centred care. 3.To undertake comprehensive assessments of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations or multiple pathologies, using clinical reasoning skills and a variety of assessment techniques to provide an accurate analysis of their condition. 4.To deliver effective, evidence-based occupational therapy treatment that is modified to reflect the patient's on-going needs. 5.To actively participate in the planning of complex discharges. CLINICAL/SERVICE DELIVERY 1.To be responsible for own practice and accountable for all aspects of occupational therapy treatment and care delivered to the patient. 2.To be responsible for maintaining evidence based clinical practice both for self and band five occupational therapy /support worker members of the team under supervision. 3.To be able to motivate and encourage patients with a range of conditions to work with treatment programmes and work towards treatment goals. 4.To organise and lead family meetings and case conferences as required in order to facilitate realistic goal setting and appropriate discharge planning. OPERATIONAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES 1.To ensure that appropriate risk assessment/management occurs within designated area, reporting back to senior. 2.To work on any of the Trust sites as requested. 3.To use information technology to communicate assessment and treatment results to relevant disciplines and produce letters and reports as necessary. LEADERSHIP/MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES 1. To be responsible for organising and planning own caseload to meet service needs and patient priorities, readjusting plans as situations change/arise, on a day-to-day basis. To assist band 5 occupational therapists / support worker staff to do likewise. 2.To be responsible in the day-to-day supervision and allocation of work to less experienced occupational therapists and support workers within the clinical team.
