Full Job Description

  • To successfully complete an Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) Master's Degree (MSc Level 7) programme in line with the Health Education England (HEE) Multi-professional
  • Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice, and their primary professional regulatory body
  • To work towards fulfilling the expectations and core capabilities of an ACP as set out in the HEE Multi-professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice in England. This will be achieved
  • through workplace-based assessments in clinical practice, with a named clinical supervisor, and clinical supervision in own service/speciality area
  • The trainee role will be supported in their professional development and wellbeing, in order to prepare for transition to a qualified ACP role on achievement of the academic requirements, and evidence of
  • workplace-based capability and competence within their service/speciality.
  • The trainee will be expected to demonstrate and develop proficiency across the four pillars of Advanced Clinical Practice, namely Clinical, Leadership and Management, Education and Research
  • The trainee will be expected to participate in workplace-based clinical training and assessments, developing a portfolio or evidence to demonstrate capability through either the Paediatric Critical Care
  • Competencies for Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioners or an equivalent ANP Competency package with their Clinical Supervisor(s), and following a full Learning Needs Analysis on their commencement of training.

    We have an exciting opportunity to offer the chance for a motivated, experienced practitioner to join our team as a trainee Advanced Critical Care Practitioner. We would welcome applications from experienced registered professionals, qualified to degree level, with experience in a Paediatric Critical Care setting. Applicants must be willing to complete a post-graduate MSc in Advanced Practice, and develop a portfolio to evidence their capability through the completion of relevant workplace-based training curricula or competencies.,
  • UK Registered healthcare professional (e.g. NMC/HCPC/GPhC)
  • Significant post-registration experience within area of practice (Paediatric Critical Care)
  • Willingness to complete an MSc Level 7 degree in Advanced Practice
  • Have a first degree, or prior learning at the equivalent appropriate level (level 7)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Applicants should attend interview with an existing professional portfolio of post-registration evidence, and evidence of existing qualifications or any relevant modules already undertaken
  • Applicants successfully appointed with training funding after OUH interview, will later be required to apply and interview for a position at the relevant Higher Education Institution (University) for the ACCP MSc place, with an anticipated MSc course start date of September 2026.,
  • Significant experience within speciality of the recruiting area for the tACCP role (PICU/retrieval)
  • Proven evidence of management ability and leadership skills
  • Proficient clinical acumen and practical procedural skills (with evidence of competency and capability).
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues and measures of quality
  • Experience and evidence of clinical audit, service evaluation or improvements in practice
  • Ability to appraise evidence, using analytical and problem-solving skills to inform decision-making, and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands
  • Desirable criteria
  • Experience of change management
  • Demonstrable evidence of research capability, or the application of research evidence to own clinical practice
  • Existing technical clinical procedural skills relevant to clinical service, Commitment to studying for and completing, a master's Level 7 ACP post-graduate degree
  • Commitment to evidencing own professional development, capabilities and competency development via work-based assessments and use of a portfolio
  • Willingness to engage in clinical supervision to develop knowledge, skills and behaviours across the breadth of the four pillars of advanced practice
  • Ability to recognise and analyse complex situations, utilising decision-making skills to take appropriate action
  • Evidence of teaching and sharing knowledge with others in the MDT or externally to organisation.
  • Demonstration of leadership in clinical practice
  • Demonstration of skills in mediation and conflict resolution
  • Excellent communication skills including contemporaneous documentation and note keeping and SBAR handover
  • Ability to recognise own limitations, working within scope of practice, acting on feedback linked to practice change when required
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, which may include days/weekends or nights, as required to fulfil the ACP role, and dependent on service needs
  • Evidence of effective team working and team leadership (when required) as part of a multi-disciplinary professional team
  • Desirable criteria
  • Ability to undertake clinical audits or service evaluations
  • Ability to work with a high level of attention to detail, supporting ability to deliver service measurement and improvement
  • Evidence of delivering educational teaching and associated evaluations, internally and/or externally to the organisation
  • Formal training and certificate in mediation and conflict resolution, Demonstrates a clear vision of the tACCP role in developing the clinical service
  • Aligned to the Trust values, conducts themselves in a professional manner at all times
  • Positive attitude to all tasks and stakeholders, excellent communication skills (all channels)
  • Willingness and enthusiasm towards working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in delivering care, Computer literate with experience of working with Microsoft Office packages
  • Familiarity with electronic patient records
  • Advanced keyboard skills, to ensure fluent documentation
  • Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of e-portfolio use, UK Registered healthcare professional (e.g. NMC/HCPC/GPhC)
  • First level degree (HEI Level 5 or 6) in undergraduate base profession
  • Demonstrable evidence of ability to study at Level 7 (either previous Level 6 or level 7 study), or willingness to submit academic piece for assessment if required
  • APLS / ePALS - provider, Specialist post-graduate education / qualifications relevant to Paediatric Critical Care
  • Mentoring or Facilitating Workplace Learning Qualification
  • Leadership Course or Qualification
