Band 7 Specialist Intensive Care and Nutrition Support Dietitian

Have responsibility for providing advanced and highly specialised dietetic support within critical care and parenteral nutrition team services. - Be a key member of the multidisciplinary team - Support line management responsibilities for other junior Dietitians/Dietetic Assistants - Work closely with the other dietetic leads/specialist Dietitians at UHB to continue to develop the dietetic service - Contribute to the training of student Dietitians on clinical placement - Based at Heartlands and Good Hope Hospital (Employees will be expected to demonstrate a flexible working approach and move across sites as required to deliver care based on organisational and service need). - To participate in 7 days working when appropriate service delivery allows and commences,

• To be responsible for and lead on a day-to-day basis the provision of Dietetic services within the critical Care and nutrition support team at HGS.
• To be an integral member of the Multidisciplinary and Dietetic Team structures within the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.
• To lead the provision of service to specialist clinical areas using a high level of knowledge, skills and experience as an independent practitioner.
• To deliver a high quality, evidence-based Nutrition and Dietetic service to designated areas.
• To act autonomously and competently in the management of an adult caseload with a varying degree of nutritional complexity. This involves nutritional diagnosis (interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometry, clinical condition and diet history) and the development of suitable feeding plans/regimens. This necessitates the knowledge and use of the evidence base, assessment, counselling skills, motivational interviewing and other behavioural therapies in order to formulate an individualised care plan/programme, followed by education and support of the patient, monitoring, reviewing and reassessment over time.

  Evidence of relevant GCSE, NVQ, GNVQ, AS and A levels
• Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
• Registration with HCPC, MSc or equivalent experience e.g. advanced level of clinical practice / relevant postgraduate, professionally accredited courses, Relevant post registration experience relevant to clinical area i.e critical care and parenteral nutrition- at least 12 months
• In depth for nutritional assessment / nutritional screening tools.
• Knowledge of all types of nutritional support.
• Up to date with clinical developments, with evidence of contributions to clinical meetings / journal clubs.
• Working knowledge of computer programmes e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, power point, dietary analysis, data collection and patient information programmes.
• Evidence of clinical audit and/or research.
• Evidence of multi-disciplinary team work.
• Knowledge of standards of record keeping and medico-legal issues.
• Experience of training Dietetic students., Evidence of teaching groups pf professionals and patients
• Evidence of ongoing regular attendance on post-graduate training courses and clinical development.
• Evidence of attendance at national conferences.
• Attendance at specialist group meetings of BDA and accredited specialist training course.
• Attendance at relevant multi-disciplinary courses/conferences, Ability to work through interpreters and use visual aids
• Able to use a range of communication skills

• Manage and organise own work load.
• Use equipment relevant to speciality e.g. skin fold callipers, enteral feeding equipment, weighing scales, stadiometers.

• Ability to analyse, interpret and explain complex information on diagnosis, management plan and their implications in a clear and precise manner to patients, their relatives and members of the multiprofessional team.
• Ability to use skills of persuasion, motivation, negotiation and problem solving with colleagues, members of the multi professional team and other professionals on a daily basis.
