Full Job Description
A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly qualified, enthusiastic Team Lead Physiotherapist to join our Burns and Plastics Therapy team.
As a regional Burns Centre and a Major Trauma Centre the successful candidate will take a lead role in the specialist assessment and management of patients within these pathways.
Patients are seen in various wards within the hospital including Critical Care, Burns Centre, Plastic Surgery ward and day case. You will also have the opportunity to deliver specialist assessment and therapy to patients in theatre and in sedated change of dressings as well as burns and plastics outpatients in dressings clinic and in separate physiotherapy appointments.
You will demonstrate specialist knowledge in Burns & Plastics and will work alongside clinical specialists and consultant physiotherapists, and the wider MDT including Consultants, nursing staff and ACPs to facilitate the service delivery & development of an expanding specialty.
There is a strong commitment to MDT service delivery and research. The successful individual will have the opportunity to lead and participate in research and service development.
Candidates should have significant rehabilitation experience. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wishes to develop their clinical leadership skills & broaden their experience in this specialty area.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to work autonomously, undertaking specialist, advanced assessment and treatment of patients with minor and major burns including inhalation injury and plastic surgery patients.
They will be expected to use advanced evidence based clinical reasoning, analytical and investigative skills to interpret clinical and non-clinical facts in order to provide an accurate diagnosis or differential diagnosis of their condition.
You will develop specialist knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of oedema and scarring. This will include contractures, and an understanding of specialist scar treatments i.e. pressure therapy, scar massage, silicone and other adjuncts.
The post holder will work alongside the wider Burns and Plastics team, supporting staff development, clinical teaching of staff and undergraduates.
There will be an expectation for active participation in service evaluation and quality improvement projects, with the opportunity to present outcomes at local, national and international platforms.
Key skills include excellent communication and leadership, collaborative working and a desire to develop. You need excellent time management skills day to day, as a well as proactive management of team operational planning such as appraisals, rotation planning, respiratory competency training and preceptorship and new staff induction.
