University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull (UHB - HGS) would like to invite applications for a full time Physician Assistant (PA) for a 7-month fixed term contract commencing October 2026. The successful candidate will join an existing team of PAs who work as part of a dynamic and enthusiastic multidisciplinary team providing high quality care to the population of Birmingham. As this is a fixed term post, clinical experience as a qualified PA is required.

The role will flexible cover colorectal, upper GI, vascular, urology and ENT dependent on service need. The post will be based on the Heartlands and Solihull sites but like all staff at UHB, there may be a requirement to work on our alternative sites. The role does include on-call commitments at Heartlands and Solihull sites including weekends and bank holidays.

We are looking for highly motivated and dedicated candidates to provide exceptional standards of patient care and communication. The successful candidate will be expected to work alongside a diverse multi-disciplinary team to help deliver high standards of care. The successful candidate will be expected to perform delegated duties with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge and to assist and facilitate clinical teaching and supervision of colleagues and students., Successful candidates will complete a supported induction period to gain general trust specific knowledge and mandatory training. There will be ongoing speciality support from the well-established surgical PA team, the PA lead and the Extended Surgical Team Lead. The post holder will recognise the importance of the MDT in delivering a high quality, patient-centred service. They will be accountable for ensuring that patient care is of a high standard at all times and that care and treatment of patients meet the department's requirements. PAs are supervised by a designated supervising consultant/supervising doctor on duty. They will work closely with their teams at all times while displaying a high degree of personal acumen when assessing and planning care for patients. The post holder will acquire and maintain specialist knowledge and experience in the department, acting as a resource and support for the clinical team and allied health professionals.
