Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Senior Clinician within the newly developed Mental Health Crisis and Assessment Service (MHCAS) at Lakeside Mental Health Unit. This is a 10-month fixed-term contract/secondment opportunity and offers an exciting chance to play a key role in the ongoing development of an innovative crisis service. This senior clinical role will provide visible frontline leadership, supporting the Team Manager in the delivery and ongoing development of a high-quality, responsive crisis service for individuals experiencing acute mental health difficulties.

The post holder will lead by example, maintaining a strong clinical presence within the service and providing expert support and guidance to staff managing complex presentations, high-risk situations, and challenging clinical decisions. They will be responsible for coordinating clinical activity, ensuring safe and effective patient flow, promoting best practice, and supporting the delivery of evidence-based, person-centred care across the service.

Working alongside the Team Manager, the post holder will contribute to clinical governance, workforce development, service improvement, and quality assurance initiatives. They will provide supervision, mentorship, and professional leadership to nursing and multidisciplinary colleagues, fostering a culture of continuous learning, reflective practice, and excellence

The Band 7 MHCAS Senior Clinician will provide senior clinical leadership within the Mental Health Crisis Assessment Service (MHCAS), maintaining a visible frontline presence and supporting the Team Manager in the delivery of a safe, responsive, and high-quality 24-hour crisis service. The post holder will lead on complex assessments, risk management, crisis intervention, patient flow, and clinical decision-making, ensuring evidence-based, recovery-focused, and least restrictive care. They will coordinate multidisciplinary working, provide expert advice to colleagues, and support staff through supervision, appraisal, coaching, and professional development. Working proactively with service users, carers, and partner agencies, the post holder will promote engagement, holistic assessment, and early intervention, meeting people at the point of crisis and supporting plans to reduce future episodes of crisis. They will contribute to service development, quality improvement, audit, governance,
and pathway transformation, while fostering strong partnerships across acute, community, emergency, and third-sector services to improve outcomes and reduce unnecessary admissions and A&E attendances.
