Full Job Description
The breast care nursing team work within all the site specific stages of the breast disease pathway. Working collaboratively and cross covering all breast clinical nurse specialists. The post holder will be expected: To be an active member of the breast care nursing team with a willingness to develop new skills. To participate in the provision of high quality specialist nursing care to patients with breast disease throughout the patient pathway and entire disease trajectory. To work autonomously using expert clinical judgement and knowledge to provide informational and psychological care to patients and their families in conjunction with the multidisciplinary teams in acute care Primary Care and Tertiary care providers. To assist with all aspects of breast care provision in association with multidisciplinary team (MDT). To act as a nursing resource, provide clinical leadership and expertise as a specialist nurse in relation to breast cancer. To take responsibility for own evidence based practice and to ensure awareness of current research to support and underpin specialist advice. To develop all staff within the multidisciplinary team, providing support, advice, formal and informal education Main duties of the job Royal Free World Class ValuesThe post holder will offer World Class Care to service users, staff, colleagues, clients and patients alike so that everyone at the Royal Free can feel: o Welcome all of the time o Confident because we are clearly communicatingo Respected and cared for o Reassured that they are always in safe hands o To use expert clinical judgement to advise on planning, implementing and evaluating care for breast patients throughout the cancer pathway.o To work in close liaison with the breast multi-disciplinary team within the hospital, to ensure that patients receive timely and appropriate information to facilitate informed choice of treatment options. o To communicate between patients, family/carers and health professionals. To provide relevant support, information, education, counselling as required within an advocacy role. o To liaise with the acute oncology nurse specialist, radiology, chemotherapy, plastics and ward nurses to ensure continuity of care throughout the patient's pathway. o To work with patients & families and to provide appropriate information and support and referral to relevant clinical teams. o To act as an expert role model in nursing care and world class behaviours to other nurses and healthcare professionals. o To ensure thorough documentation is maintained. o To undertake assessment of patients with breast cancer using the Holistic Needs Assessment at appropriate points in the pathway.
- BSC/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience
- Your professional knowledge acquired at degree level will be supplemented by specialist training, experience and short courses to Masters level equivalent
- Post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or equivalent post qualification experience.

- To have or working towards a Masters degree
- To have or Working towards a non medical physical assessment course

- Breast Care Qualification Previous experience Essential
- Extensive experience of working autonomously at an advanced level within the specialist area delivering effective patient focused care
- Proven evidence of management / leadership skills and autonomous practice
- Previous experience of student supervision
- Experience of delivering patient Advocacy
- Experience of audit, research & evidence based care
- Experience of delivering change management both personally and as a facilitator. Skills/ Knowledge/ Ability Essential
- Advanced clinical, managerial and leadership skills in specialty
- Proven listening / counselling skills with the ability to manage complex situation and appropriately deliver sensitive and difficult outcomes
