Full Job Description

A Vacancy at Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. The Learning Disabilities Team is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to join the Team. We welcome applications from those at Band 7 as this is a preceptorship role with scope to progress to 8a over time, or 8a applicants who have already gained relevant post qualification experience. We are a multi-disciplinary team comprised of Clinical Psychology, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, Learning Disability Nursing and Support Workers, OT and SALT. The team is part of the Children and Young People's Division of the Trust and works across two main clinical pathways: behaviours that challenge and mental health, for young people with a moderate to profound Learning Disability aged 0-19 years. We also offer neurodevelopmental assessment and diagnosis for those children known to our service who demonstrate behaviours indicative of either Autism and/or ADHD and where this assessment is required to better understand the behaviours of concern they show and/or their mental health difficulties. We work directly with the young people and their families and liaise closely with schools, social care and other health professionals supporting them. We offer parent psychoeducation groups, as well as consultation and training for colleagues across the division. All team members are offered training in specialist assessment and intervention as well as regular CPD events to enhance clinical practice.

  • Providing highly specialist psychological assessment and intervention to clients and their families as well as offering indirect clinical services such as advice and consultation to colleagues and other professionals.
  • Involvement in service planning and development, this will include identifying need and participating in development plan processes.
  • Contribute to the development of the Team offer.
  • Staff support and supervision, and facilitation of client related work undertaken by other team members.
  • Staff training.
  • Applied research and development related to the needs of the client served and the Children and Young People's Division.
  • Participation in Clinical Governance activities including Continuing Professional Development.
  • Participation in the development of operational policy, service planning and service evaluation.

Welcome to Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. Our 4000 clinical and support staff help us to improve mental health wellbeing and meet the needs of the 70,000 people we serve each year. We provide a range of mental healthcare services across Birmingham and Solihull, as well as specialised services nationally. We also offer medical, nursing and psychology training and are proud of our international reputation for both research and innovation.
  • Our population is culturally diverse, characterised in places by high levels of deprivation which create an increasing demand for our services and a necessity for us to make sure everyone can access the help they need. We are a team of compassionate, inclusive and committed people working together to provide excellent care to support our community. If you are looking for a place to belong, where you can make a real difference to people's lives, join our team where our warm welcome is waiting for you.
